A '''Companion''' is a pet-type item that follows the user around. These items have a distinct "Companion" label in the [[Special:MyLanguage/Shop|Shop]]. A Companion stays spawned and follows the user between instances rather than needing to be spawned again each time, and only one Companion can be active at a time. Companions include a repositioning system, custom spawn and despawn animations, and following behavior, and can be customized from their Details screen in the [[Special:MyLanguage/Quick Menu|Quick Menu]], a dedicated section of the [[Special:MyLanguage/Action Menu|Action Menu]], or from the [[Special:MyLanguage/Inventory|Inventory]]. VRChat has indicated that additional ability categories may be added in the future.

VRChat creates accessories internally and collaborates with select community creators.

== Overview ==
When a user adds an accessory to their avatar, it is automatically attached to a default [[avatar]] bone (such as the head, hips, or arm) chosen to best suit the accessory. Users can reassign the accessory to any bone on the avatar's skeleton through the attachment controls.

Each accessory can be repositioned, rotated, and scaled using on-screen controls or the precise adjustment panel on the right side of the editor. Some accessories also offer additional customization options, such as color changes or toggling visual elements. Accessories use VRChat's Toon Standard shader. Some accessories that attach to a wrist can be equipped on both wrists at once, allowing a symmetrical look.

To preserve performance, the distance at which other users' accessories appear is both distance-based and count-based: the more people and accessories that are present in an instance, the shorter the range at which they become visible. Users always see their own accessories. Rather than disappearing abruptly, accessories can switch to lower-quality models at a distance.

A '''Look''' is a saved combination of accessories and a specific avatar. When an accessory is added to an avatar for the first time, VRChat automatically creates a new Look. The Looks Editor is how users can add and customize accessories on their avatar. It is spilt up into 3 sections:

* '''Left''': This side displays all owned accessories. Clicking on an accessory will add it to the avatar and assign it to a default bone. Hovering over an added accessory allow the user the option to duplicate it. Additionally, an undo, redo, and reset buttons are under the owned accessories.

* '''Right''': This side displays all properties of the selected accessory. An accessory can have its position, rotation, and scale edited. Some accessories have additional customizable properties, such as toggles, colors, or blend shapes.

== Overview ==
When a user adds an accessory to their avatar, it is automatically attached to a default [[avatar]] bone (such as the head, hips, or arm) chosen to best suit the accessory. Users can reassign the accessory to any bone on the avatar's skeleton through the attachment controls.

Each accessory can be repositioned, rotated, and scaled using on-screen controls or the precise adjustment panel on the right side of the editor. Some accessories also offer additional customization options, such as color changes or toggling visual elements. Accessories use VRChat's Toon Standard shader. Some accessories that attach to a wrist can be equipped on both wrists at once, allowing a symmetrical look.

To preserve performance, the distance at which other users' accessories appear is both distance-based and count-based: the more people and accessories that are present in an instance, the shorter the range at which they become visible. Users always see their own accessories. Rather than disappearing abruptly, accessories can switch to lower-quality models at a distance.

The Looks Editor is how users can add and customize accessories on their avatar. It is spilt up into 3 sections:

* '''Left''': This side displays all owned accessories. Clicking on an accessory will add it to the avatar and assign it to a default bone. Hovering over an added accessory allow the user the option to duplicate it. Additionally, an undo, redo, and reset buttons are under the owned accessories.

* '''Right''': This side displays all properties of the selected accessory. An accessory can have its position, rotation, and scale edited. Some accessories have additional customizable properties, such as toggles, colors, or blend shapes.
