Usr 25ab3fa1-00d9-40b9-bc28-15f6a6b3a4a1: added information the the required "User" rank, and reworded the section a bit to fit more nicely with the now added extra info.

See also Instances for further information.
Worlds are the virtual spaces inhabited by users on VRChat. They are the locations wherein users can interact with each other, the environment, and other features and mechanics. Worlds are created by members of the community, and uploaded as either public or private using the VRChat SDK, intended for others to join. Worlds must be uploaded for each platform to be compatible for users of that platform to join.

There's a variety of world types covering topics ranging from social hangouts, games, to avatar showcases, scenic views, and more. Each world can have multiple sessions running at the same time, referred to as instances, which have a global region they're linked to, a maximum user capacity set by the world author, and an instance type that controls who can join and moderate the world instance.
Discovering and joining worlds
When a user launch VRChat for the first time, they will spawn in VRChat Default Home, set as an Invite-only instance. Users can change their home world to any world they want from the world page. A user's home world and instance type can be changed at any time. One can also choose to log into the VRChat website or use the main page of VRChat on Mobile to browse worlds, and launch VRChat.
Using the menu
When opening the menus, there are a few different routes one can take to join a new world, or instance.

"Worlds" Quick Link / tab
When opening the Quick Menu, using the Quick Links button for Worlds will take the user to the Main Menu, which by default, displays VRCat's Variety Box, and features a random selection from various different world categories. When anywhere on the Main Menu, users can also get to this page by using the World tab at the bottom.

On the left of the World tab, one can select a specific world category such as "Trending", "Avatar Worlds - Trending", "Games - Active", "New & Noteworthy", etc. This can be useful for quickly finding popular worlds in different categories. Clicking on a world tile here will take users to the detailed menu page for that world, giving the user options to select an existing instance to join or to create a new one, and to either join directly or drop a world portal. Each world is represented with a thumbnail, giving insight into its contents.

Recently visited, and favorite worlds
When in the World tab, there is a collapsed dropdown titled My Worlds, which contain any worlds uploaded, recently visited or favorited by the user.

Search
From the Worlds page, users can use the "Search" feature to search for a specific world by title, description, tag, author, etc. These can also be sorted by Relevance, Last Updated, and Popular.

When anywhere on the Main Menu, users can also get to another page to search for worlds by using the Search tab at the bottom. Using search tab will suggest another variety of different search terms for discovering worlds, sorted into two different categories: Recommended Searches, and Quick World Searches. Quick World Searches can be shuffled to spot different search terms.

Portals
See also Portals for further information.

Portals provide a quick way for users to access a specific world and instance, without having to individually find it through the menu. The portal will display the world image inside of itself, and it will usually have the title above alongside other details such as user capacity and region. By default, walking forward into a portal, will transfer the user to the associated world, but Settings can be changed so that it requires user input (Portal Prompt), to prevent accidental travel. Portals come in two varieties:

Static portals
Worlds may contain 'static portals' that they feature to serve as a link to other worlds. These are part of the world, and as such, usually stay there permanently, ready for people to interact with. If a user walks through a static portal, a countdown, starting from thirty will begin, to which any following user can proceed into the same instance until the countdown expires.

User-placed portals
Users can place portals to a world instance, by searching for a world in the World tab, then choosing New Instance, followed by the instance type, and finalized with Drop Portal. Portals can be placed down on most surfaces in the world, except near the designated spawn point(s). These appear the same as static portals, except the countdown timer initiates when the portal is dropped by the user, starting at thirty seconds. The timer can be extended, by having more users enter the portal. Once the timer expires, the portal disappears.

Creating and uploading worlds
In order to create and upload a VRChat world, a user must have reached the "User" trust rank.

To get started with creating your world, download the VRChat Creator Companion, which will help with the installation of the latest compatible version of Unity for VRChat, and install the VRChat SDK into a world project.

* Meta Quest 2
* Meta Quest 3(S)
* Meta Quest Pro
* Vive Focus Vision
* Vive XR Elite
* Pico 4
* Pico 4 Pro
* Pico 4 Ultra
Smartphone

* Bei Verwendung der Standard-Controllerkonfiguration sind alle Funktionen zugänglich.
* VRChat zeigt die Steam Deck-Controller-Symbole an.
* Der Text der Spieloberfläche ist auf dem Steam Deck gut lesbar.
* Die Standard-Grafikkonfiguration von VRChat funktioniert gut auf dem Gerät.
* RAM: 4GB

Man kann die Are you ready for Valve Index?
* Betriebssystem: Windows 10, Windows 11

Standalone devices
VRChat runs on the following standalone headsets:

* Meta Quest 2
* Meta Quest 3(S)
* Vive XR Elite
* Pico 4
* Pico 4 Ultra

Mobile phone
VRChat can be played on any Android 10+ device with at least 6GB of system RAM, and is connected to Wi-Fi or over 4G/5G cellular networks.

Any recent mid-range or higher Android device should meet these specifications.

Steam Deck
Valve's testing indicates that VRChat is Verified on the Steam Deck. It is fully functional and works great with the built-in controls and display.

* All functionality is accessible when using the default controller configuration.
* VRChat shows Steam Deck controller icons.
* In-game interface text is legible on the Steam Deck.
* VRChat's default graphics configuration performs well on the device.

PC
minimum
* CPU: Intel® i5-4570k or AMD FX 8350 or equivalent
* Memory: 4GB
* GPU: NVIDIA GeForce® GTX 970 or AMD Radeon™ R9 290 or equivalent
* Disk Space: 21.5GB of storage (~1.5GB for application, 20GB minimum cache size)
* Internet Connection: 25Mbps download speed
* OS: Windows 10, Windows 11

These are the absolute minimum requirements to run VRChat on desktop mode. Although the application will run, you may encounter performance issues. VRChat has lots of user-created content, some avatars and worlds may cause your performance to drop more than you might expect from a typical game! It is recommended adjusting Safety Settings for the most optimal experience.

One can download the Are you ready for Valve Index? application to see if their device is compatible with running VRChat in VR mode.

recommended
* CPU: AMD 5800X3D or 7800X3D, or 12th Generation Intel® i5, or equivalent
* Memory: 32GB
* GPU: NVIDIA GeForce® RTX 3060 12GB or equivalent
* Disk Space: 21.5GB of storage (~1.5GB for application, 20GB minimum cache size)
* Internet Connection: 100Mbps download speed
* OS: Windows 10, Windows 11

For your CPU, you'd want to get a 7800X3D, as AMD swapped to a new socket (AM5) with this generation. The AMD X3D series of processors perform unusually well in VRChat and other games due to their very large onboard cache. As for the GPU, aiming for the graphics card with the most VRAM available is best.
When you launch VRChat, you will be presented with a log in screen. You will have options on changing languages, reading Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, and primarily signing in with a VRChat account, or create a device account via Steam, Meta, Google, Pico, or VIVE, depending on the device being used. To log in to a VRChat account, you must first register on VRChat's website. Creating a VRChat account will grant you access to the VRChat application, a web version of your VRChat profile, friend list, browse worlds, and generate impostors. You will also be able to access VRChat's Software Development Kit, Feedback Forums, Ask Forums, enroll in the Creator Economy Program, and edit the VRChat Wiki.

Creating a device account via Steam, Meta, Google, Pico, or VIVE, will only grant instantaneous access to the VRChat application. It is also possible to merge accounts if you wish to generate a device account now, and later create a VRChat account. After merging your account, choosing to log into the device account will transfer your login to the VRChat account.

Learning how to use VRChat
When you log into VRChat, you’ll start in a private Home world! Here, you can explore at your own pace to learn the controls, adjust settings, find your first avatar, and go to your next world! The default Home world is the VRChat Home, a welcoming place to begin your session. You can choose to go back to your private Home instance at any time by opening up the Quick Menu, and choosing the Go Home tile.

When meeting another user in VRChat, you can open up your Quick Menu, and learn more information about a user. To do this in VR, point the laser in your off-hand at them. A capsule will appear, and you click the trigger button to bring open a separate menu. On desktop, you can either click the Select User tile, or hold the Shift key and hover over the capsule. Use the left mouse button to open the new menu. On mobile, simply tap on the user to bring open the menu.

In the Quick Menu there also is a tab which shows you the list of current players in the instance: the Here tab. By clicking on one of the user names in the list you can: read their biography, request to add them as a friend, change their microphone volume, mute them, hide their avatar, clone their avatar if available, or block them.

This article highlights the process of merging an existing platform account to a regular VRChat account.

Platform accounts include pre-existing VRChat on the following devices:

* Steam
* Meta
* PICO
* Viveport

Benefits of a full VRChat account
A full VRChat account enables users to:
* Earn Trust Ranks
* Retain the simplicity of one-click logins
* Apply to enroll in the Creator Economy Program
* Gain access to Login
** https://vrchat.com/home
** VRChat SDK
* Gain authorization access on platforms with VRChat SSO
** https://wiki.vrchat.com/
** https://feedback.vrchat.com/
** Ask Forums
** Third-party vendors that utilize VRChat SSO

Pre-merge considerations
Favorites limit
Upon merging, if the total number of favorites from both accounts exceeds the platform's maximum limit, users may retain more favorites than typically allowed. However, to add new favorites, users must remove existing ones to fit within the limit. It is generally advised to merge into a fresh account.

Purchase restrictions
Users who have made purchases through the Creator Economy on any platform (Steam, Meta, Pico, Viveport) cannot merge their accounts into a full VRChat account. This restriction is temporary and expected to be lifted.

Merging process
This article highlights the process of merging an existing platform account to a regular VRChat account.

Platform accounts include pre-existing VRChat on the following devices:

* Steam
* Meta
* PICO
* Viveport

Benefits of a full VRChat account
A full VRChat account enables users to:
* Earn Trust Ranks
* Retain the simplicity of one-click logins
* Apply to enroll in the Creator Economy Program
* Gain access to Login
** https://vrchat.com/home
** VRChat SDK
* Gain authorization access on platforms with VRChat SSO

To merge a platform account into a full VRChat account, follow these steps:
# Log into the Steam, Meta, Pico, or Viveport account you wish to merge.
# Open the Main Menu in VRChat.
# Navigate to Settings.
# Locate and click the Merge button below the Exit option.
#* If the Merge button is not visible, you are already logged into a full VRChat account.
# Follow the on-screen instructions to link your account.

Post-merge
