== Namespaces ==
The VRChat Wiki has namespaces that editors should become familiar with. Using these namespaces will be useful when creating, and searching for articles.

* '''VRChat''' -
No Prefix
- Official VRChat Wiki pages. Changes to VRChat articles made by you, and other editors will require moderation approval, and will appear after being reviewed. These articles primarily feature content created by VRChat itself, or be generalized topics. This also covers official applications and software, such as the [[Special:MyLanguage/VRChat Creator Companion|VRChat Creator Companion]], and the [[Special:MyLanguage/VRChat SDK|VRChat SDK]].

* '''Community''' - Prefix:
Community:
- The community namespace. Pages here should be focused on community pages, hubs, and creations. This also covers community applications and software, such as Unity, Blender, and prefabs. Everyone can edit these pages directly. [[Special:MyLanguage/:Category:Worlds|World pages]], [[Special:MyLanguage/:Category:Avatars|Avatar pages]], [[Special:MyLanguage/:Category:Guides|Guides]] and [[Special:MyLanguage/:Category:Resources|Resources]] belong here.

* '''Guides''' - Prefix:
Guides:
- Articles in the guides namespace focus on how to accomplish a task, troubleshoot a problem, or describe advanced topics in complexity. Guides should remain proactive, and relevant to VRChat, Unity, and other similar software.

* '''Category''' - Prefix:
Category:
- These namespaces are for classifications and arranging ambiguations into organized lists, such as <nowiki>''Category:Community Content''</nowiki>

* '''VRCWiki''' - Prefix:
VRCWiki:
- Namespace for pages in relation to the VRChat Wiki.

* '''User''' - Prefix:
User:
- The user namespace is the "home page" of an editor. You can edit your own user page, as long as it follows VRChat's guidelines. Adding to another editor's talk page is the equivalent of publicly messaging them.

* '''Special''' - Prefix:
Special:
- Namespace for special pages.
== Creating a new page ==
To create a new page, ensure you are logged in and [https://wiki.vrchat.com/index.php?search= search] for what you would like to have as a title of that page. Should a page with that title not exist yet, an option appears to create it.
Create the page "Your Search Query" on this wiki!

Clicking this red link will direct you to creating a new page.

Please note that to create pages in the Community namespace requires to have
Community:
as a prefix of the page title. For Example:
Community:World Name
. Read more about when to use which namespace [[Special:MyLanguage/VRCWiki:How_to_Contribute#Namespaces|above]].

== Uploading images ==
When uploading images to the VRChat Wiki, you can go to the [[Special:Upload|Upload file]] page to do so. These images can be then embedded to any article that you edit. Please be sure to give a brief description or caption of the image in "Summary", but more importantly, please select the proper Licensing! While the supported file types include "png, gif, jpg, jpeg," and "webp", it is commonly best practice to upload still images using the .webp format, since it retains quality while being very optimized, compared to the .png format which takes lots of space. Keep in mind that the maximum file size to upload to the Wiki is only 20 megabytes per image, so please try converting your pictures to .webp format.

uploading images is easy

== Do not write articles about yourself or other users ==
VRChat Wiki is a knowledgebase to write about VRChat content such as features, prefabs, and worlds. This Wiki is not a place to post personal information about yourself, or other users. Feel free to create and add onto your personal User: page, or interact with another editor using the Talk/Discussion page on another User: page.
VRChat is a platform for users 13 and over, per the {{VRC link|https://hello.vrchat.com/legal | Terms of Service}}. So is this Wiki! Please refrain from referencing explicit adult or violent content. Be considerate on what you are writing about.

==Discussion Page==
[[File:DiscussionPageHighlighted.webp|thumb|A link to the Discussion Tab is present on the top left of every page.]]
Each page also has a discussion page, which is used to talk about contents of a page.
Please make a new header for each subject with a title and with what you would like to discuss.
When you finish writing a post, add
<nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>
right after it . This will automatically add your username and timestamp at the end of a paragraph.

====Hand tracking====
''See also [[Special:MyLanguage/Finger Tracking|Finger Tracking]] for more detailed information.''
{{Thumb|{{YouTube|oopovk3BPaw|title=VRChat Hand/Finger Tracking Tutorial|thumb=File:Vrc handtrackingthumbnail.webp}}}}
[[File:Handtracking controls vrcmenu.webp|thumb|250px|Controls for finger tracking, within the [[Special:MyLanguage/Main Menu|main menu]] settings.]]

VRChat also offers a {{VRC link|https://vrchat.com/home/world/wrld_8bcf07ab-5f8f-40cb-9289-b2eaad15ab98|tutorial world}}, and [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oopovk3BPaw tutorial video] on setting up hand tracking on Meta Quest systems, and to learn hand tracking gestures within VRChat.

Enable hand tracking on the Quest settings dashboard. To use hand tracking, place your controllers down on a flat surface, and hold your hands out so the Quest hand tracking system can detect them. Make sure there is ample lighting in the room, for the Quest cameras to see your hands. Please note that hand tracking ''cannot be utilized over wired Quest Link'' methods at this time.

'''To move around the [[Special:MyLanguage/Worlds|world]]''', hold your '''left hand''' up, palm facing upwards, towards your face. Touch your middle finger to your thumb in a "pinch" motion, and a small blue sphere will appear. While still pinching, move your fingers away from that sphere, and your avatar will move in that direction.

'''To turn left and right''', pinch your middle finger to your thumb with your '''right hand'''. While still pinching, move your hand left or right from its original position.

You can also turn with Comfort Turning (snap turning) on or off. If you have Comfort Turning on, you will need to move your pinched finger past the turn point each time you turn. It might be easier to use this locomotion method with Comfort Turning disabled in your [[Special:MyLanguage/Settings|settings]].

'''Open your [[Special:MyLanguage/Quick Menu|quick menu]]''' by pinching your index finger and your thumb on your '''left hand'''. This is a default gesture on Meta systems, and you will see a small menu icon floating over your hand, which fills a gauge as you long-pinch. There are three methods you can use to open your Quick Menu:

* Palm Facing Pinch
* Circle Key
* Push Button

'''To interact with the user interface and [[Special:MyLanguage/Menus|menus]]''', point at it with either hand, and select things by pinching your index and thumb together.

'''You can mute yourself''' by holding your thumb and ring finger together for a moment on your left hand.

'''Picking up world objects''' can be done by going near the object, and clenching your fist. Additionally, you can '''use objects''' by keeping your middle, ring, and little fingers clenched, but separately pinching your index and thumb together.

'''Note:''' Hand tracking does not work with Quest Link.
Finger tracking controls can be viewed in the Controls tab of the [[Special:MyLanguage/Main Menu|main menu]], while finger tracking is enabled.

===Desktop===
You can play VRChat using a keyboard and mouse.

If you intend on creating or editing an article about your own content, on the behalf of a company, or organization, it is required to read over the VRCWiki's [[Special:MyLanguage/VRCWiki:Conflicts of interest|Conflicts of Interest policy]] before publishing. == Namespaces ==
The VRChat Wiki has namespaces that editors should become familiar with. Using these namespaces will be useful when creating, and searching for articles.

* '''VRChat''' -

* '''Community''' - Prefix:

* '''Guides''' - Prefix:
Guides:
- Articles in the guides namespace focus on how to accomplish a task, troubleshoot a problem, or describe advanced topics in complexity. Guides should remain proactive, and relevant to VRChat, Unity, and other similar software.

* '''Category''' - Prefix:
Category:
- These namespaces are for classifications and arranging ambiguations into organized lists, such as <nowiki>''Category:Community Content''</nowiki>

* '''VRCWiki''' - Prefix:
VRCWiki:
- Namespace for pages in relation to the VRChat Wiki.

* '''User''' - Prefix:
User:
- The user namespace is the "home page" of an editor. You can edit your own user page, as long as it follows VRChat's guidelines. Adding to another editor's talk page is the equivalent of publicly messaging them.

* '''Special''' - Prefix:
Special:
- Namespace for special pages.

== Creating a new page ==

== Uploading images ==

==VRChat has Content Gating==
VRChat is a platform for users 13 and over, per the {{VRC link|https://hello.vrchat.com/legal | Terms of Service}}. So is this Wiki! Please refrain from referencing explicit adult or violent content. Be considerate on what you are writing about.

==Discussion Page==

Example:

==New Discussion Topic==

== Uploading images ==

==VRChat has Content Gating==
VRChat is a platform for users 13 and over, per the {{VRC link|https://hello.vrchat.com/legal | Terms of Service}}. So is this Wiki! Please refrain from referencing explicit adult or violent content. Be considerate on what you are writing about.

==Discussion Page==
: Hello, I have added references for the Regions update, and the update for 2021.4.2, which includes U.S. East region. I originally thought U.S. East was included in the original Regions update, but I was mistaken. I have gone back to correct this. Thanks for catching this! :It's the former in terms of visible listed shorthand names, ''however'' when constructing an instance id it's slightly different, USW is "us", so ~region(us) rather than ~region(usw) which would invalid syntax though may work as USW is the default region. ::Ok, thanks for your detailed response on this, could you rewrite that part as is correct? There is one thing I am confused about though. Previously you submitted and edit, that adjusted the table to switch USE to US, but ingame its labled USE/USW. So I would keep the table as it is now at USW/USE, but correct the paragraph above it. Maybe we should scratch the Historically part entirely. Or maybe instead say, that historically they ran out of servers in the City they were in, would be easier to back up and relay the same meaning, that they were upgraded with the ones in Virginia. Unfortunately all the patch notes say is, that a server and security update happened. Ill ask other editors on this when I see an edit, thanks for your time. :If you (or someone else) could give us an external source or something it would help us a lot. It does sound right the way you describe it here, but this is also out of my scope unfortunately. '''Worlds''' are the virtual spaces inhabited by users on [[Special:MyLanguage/VRChat|VRChat]]. They are the locations wherein users can interact with each other, the environment, and other features and mechanics. Users can also use the Search tab on the Main Menu. This tab includes a variety of different search terms for discovering worlds, sorted into two different categories: Recommended Searches, and Quick World Searches. Quick World Searches can be shuffled to spot different search terms.
====World categories====
====Joining====

Clicking on a world tile anywhere on the "Worlds" tab will bring up the dedicated world page for that world. The world tile is represented with a [[Special:MyLanguage/Community:World Thumbnail|thumbnail]] & the world name, giving insight into its contents. This page features more details about the world, such as it's name, the author, description, actions and more.

To join the world, users can simply click the "Join" button. Alternatively, users can drop a portal to the world as well, by clicking "Drop Portal". The instance of the world a user joins can be changed on the right side, or a new instance can be created under the Actions heading.

===Portals ===

[[Special:MyLanguage/Portals|Portals]] provide a quick way for users to access a specific world and instance, without having to individually find it through the menu. The portal will display the world image inside itself, and it will usually have the title above alongside other details such as user capacity and region. By default, walking forward into a portal, will transfer the user to the associated world, but [[Special:MyLanguage/Settings#Comfort & Safety|settings]] can be changed so that it requires user input (Portal Prompt), to prevent accidental travel. Portals will always come in two distinct forms:

====Static portals====

Worlds may contain 'static portals' that they feature to serve as a link to other worlds. These are part of the world, and as such, usually stay there permanently, ready for people to interact with. If a user walks through a static portal, a countdown, starting from thirty will begin, to which any following user can proceed into the same instance until the countdown expires.

====User-placed portals====

Users can place portals to a world instance, by searching for a world in the World tab, then choosing '''New Instance''', followed by the instance type, and finalized with '''Drop Portal'''. Portals can be placed down on most surfaces in the world, except near the designated spawn point(s). These appear the same as static portals, except the countdown timer initiates when the portal is dropped by the user, starting at thirty seconds. The timer can be extended, by having more users enter the portal. Once the timer expires, the portal disappears.

==Creation==

In order to create and upload a VRChat world, a user must have reached the "User" trust rank.

To get started with creating your world, download the [[Special:MyLanguage/VRChat Creator Companion|VRChat Creator Companion]], which will help with the installation of the latest compatible version of Unity for VRChat, and install the [[Special:MyLanguage/VRChat SDK|VRChat SDK]] into a world project. Uploading a world publicly for the first time, will place it into [[Special:MyLanguage/Community Labs|community labs]] before formally being published.

== Short links ==

Worlds can be shared using VRChat's
vrch.at
short link domain combined with the world's ID, for example
<nowiki>https://vrch.at/<worldId></nowiki>
. This redirects to the world's page on the VRChat website (
<nowiki>https://vrchat.com/home/world/<worldId></nowiki>
).

Welcome to the VRChat Wiki, and we're glad you're interested in helping with our knowledge base.

Here, we cover things like:

* How do I use VRChat?
* What are the VRChat controls?
* How do I do X in VRChat?
* How do I get started creating worlds or avatars in VRChat?

Not everything is about worlds and avatars! We also allow community contributions in the [[Special:MyLanguage/VRCWiki:Community Hub|Community Hub]]! There, you can find guides and information of all kinds. Head over to the Hub to get exploring! If you are a creator or interested in using VRChat's Creator Companion or SDK, you may also be interested in our {{VRC link|https://creators.vrchat.com/|Creator Documentation}}. That webpage covers the technical documentation for creating content in VRChat.
== Contributing to the Wiki ==
If you log in with a VRChat account, you can contribute to this Wiki as long as your account is in good standing! Please make sure you read our [[Special:MyLanguage/VRCWiki:Guidelines|Guidelines]] first and understand what it means to write from a [[Special:MyLanguage/VRCWiki:Neutral_point_of_view|neutral point of view]]. If you intend on creating or editing an article about your own content, on the behalf of a company, or organization, it is required to read over the VRCWiki's [[Special:MyLanguage/VRCWiki:Conflicts of interest|Conflicts of Interest policy]] before publishing. Thank you for contributing!

Have a good day and we'll see you in VRChat!

== Namespaces ==
The VRChat Wiki has namespaces that editors should become familiar with. Using these namespaces will be useful when creating, and searching for articles.

* '''VRChat''' -

* '''Community''' - Prefix:

* '''Guides''' - Prefix:
Guides:
- Articles in the guides namespace focus on how to accomplish a task, troubleshoot a problem, or describe advanced topics in complexity. Guides should remain proactive, and relevant to VRChat, Unity, and other similar software.

* '''Category''' - Prefix:
Category:
- These namespaces are for classifications and arranging ambiguations into organized lists, such as <nowiki>''Category:Community Content''</nowiki>

* '''VRCWiki''' - Prefix:
VRCWiki:
- Namespace for pages in relation to the VRChat Wiki.

* '''User''' - Prefix:
User:
- The user namespace is the "home page" of an editor. You can edit your own user page, as long as it follows VRChat's guidelines. Adding to another editor's talk page is the equivalent of publicly messaging them.

* '''Special''' - Prefix:
Special:
- Namespace for special pages.

== Creating a new page ==

== Uploading images ==

{{Noticebox|image=Icons SafeMode 25.png|title=Personal images, racist images, pornographic images, and similar content are not permitted. Please note that files you upload may be modified or deleted—just like wiki pages—if other users consider them inappropriate. Additionally, users who place excessive strain on the system may have their upload privileges revoked.|background-color=#163136|border-color=white|color=#00FFFF}}

==VRChat has Content Gating==
VRChat is a platform for users 13 and over, per the {{VRC link|https://hello.vrchat.com/legal | Terms of Service}}. So is this Wiki! Please refrain from referencing explicit adult or violent content. Be considerate on what you are writing about.
