AudioLink is a Unity-based audio reactive system designed for VRChat, allowing avatars and world environments to visually respond to music and other audio inputs. It operates by analyzing audio in real time and using GPU processing to distribute amplitude and frequency data to shaders. This data can be applied to different elements in VRChat, including avatar shaders and environmental objects, enabling dynamic visualizations that match the audio's rhythm and intensity.

Features
*Real-Time audio analysis:
**AudioLink processes live audio data and converts it into multiple data streams. These streams contain frequency information (bass, mids, treble), making it possible to create visuals that move in sync with the audio's beat and intensity.
*Shader integration:
**AudioLink is compatible with VRChat's shaders, allowing developers to create reactive effects on avatars and worlds. It works with popular shader packs like Poiyomi Shaders, Mochie's Unity Shaders, and others.
* GPU-based processing:
**AudioLink uses the GPU for efficient signal processing, ensuring that the visuals keep up with the audio without lag. The audio data is rendered to a texture (_AudioTexture), which is then used by shaders to create synchronized animations.
*Flexible installation:
**AudioLink can be installed through the VRChat Creator Companion (VCC) or VRChat Package Manager, or by downloading the Unity package for custom setups. This flexibility allows it to be used across various platforms beyond VRChat.
*Cross-avatar and world compatibility:
**AudioLink is designed to work not only in VRChat worlds but also across all avatars within a world. This means you can have synchronized audio-reactive effects on multiple avatars at once.
*Open-source and customizable:
**Available on GitHub, AudioLink is open-source, meaning developers can modify and expand upon it. This makes it ideal for creators looking to tailor the system for unique effects.

Installation
#Download and install the VRChat Creator Companion, open it up.
#Add your project to the VCC:
#*If you want to create a new project, use the "New" option in the "Projects" tab and follow the steps there.
#*If you want to use an existing project, use the "Add" option in the "Projects" tab and follow the steps there.
#Open the Projects tab and select your project. If you have never used the VCC with the project, use the "Migrate" button to upgrade it.
#On the right side, find the AudioLink package and add it. If it doesn't show up, make sure you have the "Curated" toggle enabled in the top-right drop-down.
#At this point, the installation is done. To open your project, you can use the "Open Project" button in the VCC.

Language support
VRChat supports numerous languages within their User Interface. There are ongoing efforts to support more languages for the platform. In addition, VRChat allows a user to display one's known languages, and signed languages on their bio.
Sign language methods
Expressing sign language in VRChat is possible, but can be limited, due to the lack of variation with finger control, such as crossing fingers on controllers. It is also possible to utilize hand and finger tracking within VRChat to communicate better with sign language.

With controllers
Using gestures
By default, using VRChat on controllers will allow access to eight gestures on an avatar. Despite the limitations, interpretations of sign language can still be communicated through these controllers. The eight gestures are as follows:

* Normal
* Open (splayed)
* Victory
* Point
* Finger gun
* Thumbs up
* Fist
* Rock 'n' roll

Using these combinations of gestures makes it possible to convey many words, phrases, and sentences to other users.

Without gestures
Some controllers, like the Index Knuckles, do not use gestures. Instead, each controller has sensors for each finger, which can sense each finger to show if it's open, closed, or in between, like a lever. Using a controller in this manner makes it possible to express different words and phrases in sign language, which gestures cannot provide.

It is also optional for other controllers to emulate hand control without gestures in a similar manner, with more limited capability, such as less control on the middle, ring, and little finger.

With hand tracking
VRChat offers hand tracking support for many headsets, which allow for more finesse and versatility using hand and finger movements that controllers cannot replicate.

Communities
Users in the VRChat community have created different groups for deaf, and hard-of-hearing people to gather. Some users in VRChat also teach different sign languages. For example, educational courses and meet-and-greets are hosted by some of these groups, which aim to teach users how to practice communicating in sign language.

* Normal
* Open (splayed)
* Victory
* Point
* Finger gun
* Thumbs up
* Fist
* Rock 'n' roll

Sign language is a silent method of communication between users in VRChat. There are many users on VRChat who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, and/or are able to communicate through signed languages.

Heyo, indeed. Thanks for the amazing work you are doing for the VRChat Wiki so far. One of the Guidelines we have in place, is that articles about individual users, and creators are not permitted on the Wiki. This topic is being brought up, in regards to the "STUDIO JINGO" page that has been removed recently. I took some of the useful information from that article, and transferred it to the Community:Rindo article.

VRCWiki information about the guideline for "not writing about others" is currently in the VRCWiki:How to Contribute article, but I'll also place it in the actual VRCWiki:Guidelines page tomorrow. Thanks again for your help so far. Feel free to reply back, or message me on the VRChat Wiki Discord server if you would like to follow up. Their mission is to bridge the gap between Deaf and hearing cultures, cultivating mutual respect and appreciation for each other's experiences. In addition to their efforts in education and cultural connection, the community offers classes in various sign languages to broaden communication and inclusivity.

History & Purpose
The Global Sign Language Community (GSLC) emerged from efforts to combat discrimination faced by Deaf individuals within certain groups in the Deaf and signing community. Getomeulou and Nemsi, among others, encountered significant challenges when applying for staff roles, including barriers due to perceived deficiencies in language and writing skills, despite their proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and meeting high standards for bilingual and English proficiency. In contrast, hearing applicants were often hired more quickly.

Motivated to drive change, Getomeulou dedicated eight months to defending Nemsi’s right to an ASL teaching position. Recognizing the need for a more inclusive and supportive community structure, Nemsi, Getomeulou, Article15, and other friends of theirs formed a discussion group on October 8, 2023, to lay the ground

work for a new community dedicated to Deaf empowerment. By mid-spring 2024, the group had finalized the community's name and logo, officially establishing the Global Sign Language Community (GSLC).

GSLC is committed to advancing knowledge, equality, rights, and peace within the Deaf community. Its continued growth reflects the increasing strength, influence, and potential for meaningful contributions by Deaf individuals to society, and within VRChat.

Resources
While GSLC strives to advance the knowledge of equality and rights within the Deaf community, they also offer sign language lessons within VRChat. They offer this as a seperate arm of their community, which is called, Global Sign Language Community:Education. == Sign language methods ==

* Normal
* Open (splayed)
* Victory
* Point
* Finger gun
* Thumbs up
* Fist
* Rock 'n' roll

This world offers an extensive, interactive dictionary covering multiple sign languages, including American Sign Language (ASL), British Sign Language (BSL), French Sign Language (FSL), and Japanese Sign Language (JSL).

This world is recommended by members of the Helping Hands community, a social group for the deaf and hard-of-hearing within VRChat.

History
A brief history of this world has been documented by Bob64

v0: Proof of concept world with 3 cube buttons (you know, the ones that are hard as hell to click on) that tell 3 avatars to perform different dances.

v1: SDK2 version of the world with programmatically generated buttons and Unity UI (yay raycast laser-pointer) system. It also was the first world to use motion capture to try and show sign language in 3D space.

v2: SDK3 (Udon) version of the world, with the menu system redesigned from the ground up using Udonsharp.

v3: ShaderMotion version. This world leverages ShaderMotion to increase the precision of motion capture, solving one of the biggest problems plaguing the previous versions of the world (poor quality motion capture). The downside is the world is now heavily dependent on videoplayers working properly.

This world is based on the contributions of MrDummy_NL, a dedicated member of the deaf community within VRChat. The world described by Bob64, MrDummy_NL’s Sign&Fun, originally utilized videos to teach users sign language. Bob64's Experimental Sign Language World builds on this foundation, enhancing the learning experience with interactive 3D motion capture.

This world features advanced motion capture technology integrated within VRChat itself. It leverages this capability by displaying a 3D, motion-captured avatar that demonstrates the signs from the dictionary, providing users with a realistic and accurate visual reference for learning.
Posters are images that appear around the world, similar to the advertisements you see around Times Square. Anyone can submit a poster to be featured in the world, although some poster slots are reserved for VRChat.
The posters serve to showcase the community, such as worlds, avatars, groups, events, and more.
The Experimental Sign Language World is a VRChat world created by user Bob64, designed to provide an immersive learning experience for users interested in sign languages.

ShaderMotion
This world features advanced motion capture technology integrated within VRChat itself. It leverages this capability by displaying a 3D, motion-captured avatar that demonstrates the signs from the dictionary, providing users with a realistic and accurate visual reference for learning.

Rexouium (Latin: king caretaker), is an open species, and avatar base originally created by Rezillo Ryker in 2021.

Traits
The Rexouium species' defining traits are:

* Their height (up to 7 feet, or 213 centimeters tall)
* Strong legs
* Long, pointed ears
* Mane-like feathers along the top of the head and the back of the neck
* Tufts of feathers on the limb joints (elbows, wrists, knees)

Avatar Bases
Being an open species, multiple creators have released avatar bases featuring their signature look.

These bases include full facial visemes, have full support for full body tracking and VRChat's native eye tracking out-of-the-box, while some also have support for face tracking and MMD visemes (either built-in or as community add-ons). The bases also typically come with both Desktop and Android platform support, with different versions optimized to meet each platforms mandatory limits.

Rexouium Avatar by Rezillo Ryker
The original base made by the species' creator, Rezillo Ryker, is commonly considered to be the "default avatar"Citation needed of furries on VRChat. Due to the Rexouium's similar canine facial structure and customizability, the avatar can be made to fit many of the most common animal species used by furries and their characters.

As a result, it is among the most widely-usedCitation needed models with a large number of compatible accessories made by the rest of the community. The model also contains a lot of customization blendshapes, and the newer version includes the ability to switch between digitigrade and plantigrade leg styles. With its versatility, avatar creators often use this base to create avatars with a lot of customization options and clothing, which lead to avatars based on this model becoming frequented by furries.

This base is primarily distributed via Gumroad. The model also comes with a separate, albeit more pricy, license option for commercial use.

Rexouium Evolved and EvoRex HD, by Tosca
This base was created by Tosca, who included both digitigrade and plantigrade leg styles in their avatars as early as 2021, including the Rexouium Evolved. The digitigrade rigs were originally created using a method based on Unity bone constraints which was pioneered by DragonSkyRunner and more recently Tosca has been using another method by Reign04. Since VRChat did not support constraints for Android builds on the platform at the time of the base's release, the digitigrade rig version of the avatar is only usable on the PC platform. This base is also primarily distributed via Gumroad.

In 2023, Tosca also published the EvoRex HD base model, with the main new feature being split UVs, that allow for the use of larger resolution textures on certain parts of the avatar. The EvoRex HD is also sold on Gumroad, and was provided to the owners of the previous model version for free.

There are no specific restrictions on this base for commercial use, beyond the requirement that model files must not be redistributed by buyers.

Rezuium by Hirozu
The Rezuium, created by Hirozu, provides an alternative to the previous avatars with a different style and built-in face tracking. A separate clothing accessory package is also available. Rezuium is also available on Gumroad.

Commercial use (specifically re-sale of the model itself) is prohibited by the base's terms of service (ToS), but it can be used as part of other content as long as the fact that the model is not included with the purchase is clearly indicated, and that credit must be given to the model author.

Notably, the avatar was featured in HTC's U24 Pro commercial. The company initially failed to give credit to the base creator, breaching the base's ToS, but later included credit after republishing the commercial.

Stub
Full-Body Tracking (often abbreviated as FBT) in VRChat allows users to track the movement of their entire body, making their in-game avatar's actions more closely match their real-life movements. FBT significantly enhances immersion by allowing users to move more naturally and express themselves more fully.

Compatible Hardware
Several full body trackers used in VRChat:

* HTC Vive Trackers:
** These are some of the most widely used trackers and are compatible with most VR setups. They are typically placed on each foot and the hips or waist. SteamVR Base Stations are required.
* Tundra Trackers:
** Similar to Vive Trackers but smaller and lighter. They also have longer battery life. SteamVR Base Stations are required.
* PS Move Controllers:
** Although a budget option, these require extra software and hardware, such as Playstation Eye Cameras, to work with SteamVR and are generally more difficult to set up.
* SlimeVR Trackers:
** A budget-friendly option for people to either purchase direct from the SlimeVR Crowdsupply website, or build themselves with their documentation. It is fully open-source, hardware and software. They are designed to use IMU's for their tracking capability. They use the calculations from the IMU's to determine postion and rotation in a 3D space.
* Other Devices: Some custom setups also incorporate Kinect sensors, QR codes, such as AprilTags, and other SteamVR compatible controllers, although this method is less common.

How Full-Body Tracking Works
Full-body tracking (FBT) uses additional tracking devices attached to the body to relay real-time movement data to the VR system. Typically, trackers are placed on areas like the feet, hips, and sometimes other parts of the body, depending on the setup.

Most trackers require the use of SteamVR Base Stations to be able to track the trackers within a persons playspace. There are other solutions that use cameras, and IMU's to track the position and rotation of the trackers. Read above for trackers that don't require SteamVR Base Stations.

In VRChat, avatars that support FBT will mirror the user's real-life movements, allowing for a more immersive experience. For the best results, avatars should be configured with bones for the hips, knees, and feet to accurately follow the user's movements.

Usr 9351a258-d78e-4714-a856-68dcc5ab2c48: Proof-read a couple of bits.

<big>(This page outlines different roles and responsibilities, established for users on the VRChat Wiki. For roles involving Groups, please also see Group roles and permissions.)</big>

There are several roles involved in the oversight and production of the VRChat Wiki. This article outlines each role, its responsibilities, qualifications, and expectations.

User permissions
There are special roles for editors that can be granted via unanimous decision by the VRChat Wiki team. These currently include automoderated users and proofreaders.

Automoderated users
Automoderated users are users who have shown their investment in the VRChat Wiki, and displayed trustworthiness through consistently adding to the VRCWiki while following policies and guidelines. They are specifically selected to have their additions or edits automatically approved in the Official namespace - these pages are official VRChat information pages. Otherwise, users who are automoderated do not have any moderation capabilities, or further Wiki responsibilities.

Qualifications
To qualify as an automoderated user, one should be an active user on the VRChat Wiki for at least a week, with several quality contributions and no major infractions. A Maintainer may appoint automoderated users if other Maintainers have no reasonable objections.

Responsibilities and expectations
Like all users, automoderated users should continue to follow all VRCWiki policies. Consistent policy violations or disregard for the VRCWiki:Manual of Style may result in temporary revocation of privileges.

Proofreaders
Proofreaders are trusted with translation efforts on articles written in different languages from English, and can help guide other editors localizing articles in their language.

Qualifications
The proofreader role is assigned if they are already established with the "Proofreader" role on VRChat's Localization community for Crowdin. New proofreaders may be established by consistently publishing quality edits for their known language(s).

Responsibilities and expectations
Like all users, proofreaders should continue to follow all VRCWiki policies. Translations should be accurate and based on the English version of the article, while continuing to follow the VRCWiki:Manual of Style. When an article or page is marked ready for translation, a proofreader will then be able to make a full translation of the assigned pages.

If a page is not yet ready marked for translation, they should help to improve on the English article first.

VRChat Wiki team
The VRChat Wiki team are volunteers, who are assigned by the VRChat Wiki administrators (VRChat developers) to proactively assist in the oversight and upkeep of the VRChat Wiki.

Maintainers
Maintainers have a high degree of expectation and responsibility with overseeing the VRChat Wiki, and being part of the VRChat Wiki team.

Qualifications
Maintainers may nominate users for the role of Maintainer. The nominee must demonstrate a consistent and active investment in the VRChat Wiki, both in direct contributions on pages, as well as in discussions on Talk pages or community forums, and be present in the VRChat Wiki Discord server, to collaborate with the rest of the VRCWiki team.

They must exemplify dedication to all policies, demonstrate trustworthiness, and have no major infractions or substantial objections from the current VRChat Wiki team. VRChat Wiki administrators have veto power for approval of a new Maintainer.

Responsibilities and expectations
Maintainers are able to add, edit, and delete in almost all content spaces, and protect pages. Users with this role can approve, reject, or modify edits by users requiring moderation intervention. Maintainers help to resolve minor disputes between users on Talk pages, as well as being able to roll back or revert edits made by a user.

In addition, maintainers can moderate users for misconduct. They are also involved in the decision-making process for determining VRChat Wiki policies, and nominating persons for automoderated user, proofreader, and maintainer roles.

Maintainers should remain reasonably active on the Wiki, both in contributions and moderation responsibilities. Users in this role are expected to attend and contribute to as many meetings as possible. Abuse of privileges, or refusal to abide by established guidelines and policies, are grounds for removal from the VRChat Wiki team, and finalized by the Wiki administrators.

As a volunteer position, there's no explicit minimums or quotas given, but after general inactivity or unannounced absence for a period approximately two months or longer, the maintainer may be approached by an organizer to see if they're still interested in upholding the role. If not, or if there's no response, or no change is seen over the following two weeks, they may be removed from the position. Former maintainers who request to return after a prolonged period of voluntary or involuntary activity may return to their role, unless there's a major substantial objection taken into consideration, or if a Wiki Administrator vetoes.

Organizers
Organizers are maintainers who display high levels of experience with MediaWiki policies and its environment, and have been trusted for a higher degree of responsibility and expectation, but otherwise have equal leverage in decision-making.

Qualifications
Candidates should have demonstrated a consistent degree of active involvement and investment in discussions regarding the VRChat Wiki, and policies. They should not have any major infractions, and no major substantial objections from anyone on the VRChat Wiki team. Wiki Administrators may veto their promotion.
There should be typically three active users with the Organizer role at a time, to balance effectiveness with the position. When there's vacancy or inactivity, any new organizers should be chosen by unanimous consensus of the maintainers on the VRChat Wiki team, as well as the other organizers.

Responsibilities and expectations
Users with this role, act as liaisons between the VRChat Wiki team (volunteers), and Wiki administration. Organizers are responsible for creating, attending, and keeping up with meetings and discussions, as well as intervening and resolving any disputes within the VRChat Wiki team environment; help to manage the VRChat Wiki team by checking in with inactive Maintainers, or sanction them for policy violations, and to perform the administrative functions entrusted to them.

Organizers should be reasonably active in Wiki contributions, discussions to attend, oversee, guide meetings. They should be diligent to resolve disputes, and to communicate between the VRChat Wiki team, and Wiki administration when necessary.

As a volunteer position, there are no explicit minimums, but given their unique role and responsibilities, should generally be more involved than the already reasonable expectations assigned for maintainers. Abuse of privileges, or refusal to abide by established guidelines and policies, are grounds for removal from the VRChat Wiki team, and finalized by the Wiki administrators.

AudioLink is a Unity-based audio reactive system designed for VRChat, allowing avatars and world environments to visually respond to music and other audio inputs. It operates by analyzing audio in real time and using GPU processing to distribute amplitude and frequency data to shaders. This data can be applied across different elements in VRChat, including avatar shaders and environmental objects, enabling dynamic visualizations that match the audio's rhythm and intensity.

It works with popular shader packs like Poiyomi, Mochie's Unity Shaders, and others.
*GPU-Based Processing:

#Download and install the VRChat Creator Companion (VCC), open it up.

Mute, or mutism refers primarily to the absence of vocal communication on VRChat. "Muting" can also refer to the action of lowering or disabling the volume on a world, avatar, video player, or user. There are different reasons, as to why a user may be mute. Some users may also refer to themselves as a "mute". It is acceptable to let a user know that their microphone isn't on, but it may be considered rude to press someone on why they're muted.

By choice
This type of mutism is sometimes referred to as a personal mute. Users may wish to be mute by choice for several reasons. Reasons may include the desire to remain anonymous and not be identified by their voice, or to play or act out a character or persona, like a silent protagonist in a roleplaying video game. Users who are mute by choice may dedicate to relying on body language, emojis, and/or writing utensils to talk to others.

Medical reasons
Per VRChat's https://hello.vrchat.com/community-guidelines: "Do not use VRChat as a medical or therapeutic tool, device, or methodology". Please consult with a licensed medical professional for questions or counsel; this Wiki is not legal or medical advice.

In speech-language pathology, aphonia is the body's inability to produce vocal sound. Aphonia can occur from physical damage, surgery, psychologically, or congenitally at birth. In rare cases, some people with social anxiety, or people on the autism spectrum (ASD) may withdraw from verbal communication or be unable to communicate, via selective mutism<nowiki/>' that occurs from social triggers, being overwhelmed. Stuttering is another speech pathology that makes it difficult for the speaker to verbally convey their words.
Technical issues
See also Settings or FAQ.

General
On the Volume tab of the Quick Menu, the dropdown for Microphone will display settings for your audio output.

Make sure the Current Device is accurate for the microphone you want to use. If applicable, check to see if the external microphone is plugged in or connected, turned on, and not muted.

Back in the VRChat volume tab, under Mic Output Volume, make sure it is not at 0%. A good range for output volume is between 80% to 100%. Users may have difficulty hearing you if your output volume is lower. With Mic Activation Threshold, make certain that when speaking, the white line can go beyond the set line that indicates the percentage. An average threshold is between 5-10%. It is generally not recommended to have the threshold beyond 30% unless an external microphone is plugged in and very sensitive.

Lastly, make sure that Microphone Behavior is set to Toggle, or Push To Talk. You may also have your microphone set to Always On, but is not typically recommended.

PC / SteamVR
Make sure the Current Device is accurate for the microphone you want to use. If applicable, check to see if the external microphone is plugged in or connected, turned on, and not muted. Check recording devices in Windows by going to Sound settings or Sound mixer options, to make sure the correct microphone is set to default.

If you are connected to VRChat using SteamVR, open the SteamVR dashboard, and review your audio settings to make sure your recording device is set correctly.

Quest
When launching VRChat for the first time, make sure VRChat was given permission to let you use your microphone. If not, you can enable permissions by opening the Meta Quest dashboard, and navigating by clicking Settings > Apps > VRChat. You may also have to check the Meta Quest dashboard to see if your microphone is muted. The native Quest version of VRChat should detect your device's microphone by default.

Mobile
By default, your microphone is in "push to talk" (PTT) mode. You have to hold down the button to talk, and let go to stop talking. If the icon is white, no audio is detected. If the icon is red, it means audio is being detected, but you are not broadcasting your voice. If the icon is blue, audio is detected and you are broadcasting your voice.

When holding down the talk button, the audio in VRChat becomes quiet to prevent audio from leaking, or echoing from your broadcasted voice. If your voice is not getting picked up, you may need to go to the Apps Permissions section of your device's settings to enable microphone and audio. If connecting headphones to your devices, via jack or Bluetooth, check if those headphones have a built-in microphone and make sure it is enabled. By connecting headphones, you will also have the ability to set your microphone behavior to Toggle, or Always On.

Alternatives for communication
Users who are mute can also communicate using the Chatbox to type their message, and display it over their avatar. This can be done by opening the Action Menu, by pressing R<nowiki/>' on desktop, navigating to Options, or Tools, and using the Chatbox from there. If using a keyboard, a user can press the Y<nowiki/>' hotkey to instantly open the Chatbox. Controllers can also be set to have a binding for the Chatbox.

In addition to the Chatbox, there are specialized speech-to-text (STT) and text-to-speech (TTS) software options that can enhance communication within VRChat, typically via OSC. These tools convert spoken words into text in real-time, allowing users to communicate verbally without speaking directly. The generated text can be displayed in the Chatbox, offering an alternative way to participate in conversations.

Worlds may also feature pens, pencils, or markers to draw with. While limited, some mutes may utilize a list of Emojis to express their communication. Some mutes may solely rely on body language or answering 'yes or no' questions.

VRChat's hard-of-hearing, and deaf community developed sign language interpretation for expansive communication. VRChat also allows for a user to add their signed languages, or 'no lingustic content' to the languages displayed on their profile.

Sign language is a silent method of communication between users in VRChat. There are many users on VRChat who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, and/or are able to communicate through signed languages.

Language support
VRChat supports numerous languages within their User Interface. There are ongoing efforts to support more languages for the platform. In addition, VRChat allows a user to display one's known languages, and signed languages on their bio.

* English
** American Sign Language (ASL)
** Auslan (ASF) [Australian]
** British Sign Language (BSL)
** New Zealand Sign Language (NZS)
* French
** Langue des signes française (FSL)
* German
** Deutsche Gebärdensprache (DSE) [German]

* Dutch
** Nederlandse Gebarentaal (GSG) [Netherlands]
* Japanese
** 日本手語 (JSL)
* Korean
** 한국 수화 언어 (KSL)
* No Linguistic Content (ZXX)

* Normal
* Open (splayed)
* Victory
* Point
* Finger gun
* Thumbs up
* Fist
* Rock 'n' roll
