Objetos son elementos que los usuarios pueden hacer aparecer dentro de un mundo, p. ej., juguetes, herramientas o accesorios. Se pueden gestionar en el Inventario. Los objetos se dividen en dos categorías: Props y Companions.
Aparición
Los objetos se pueden hacer aparecer desde el submenú de Objetos en el Action Menu o desde el Inventario. Los usuarios solo pueden hacer aparecer uno de cada objeto que posean. Todos los objetos generados por un usuario se eliminarán al salir de la instancia.
La aparición o la visibilidad de los objetos puede verse afectada por:
- Desactivado por el mundo.
- Desactivado por un moderador del grupo en una instancia de grupo (pero no se puede activar forzosamente si el mundo lo tiene desactivado).
- Ocultado localmente por un usuario individual
Tipos
Hay dos categorías de objetos, cada una descrita a continuación.
Accesorios
Un Prop es el tipo predeterminado de objeto: un elemento que un usuario hace aparecer dentro de un mundo. Aunque ofrecen una gran variedad de funciones, los props se pueden agrupar de forma general según sus propiedades:
Objetos colocables
Un objeto colocable se puede situar en el suelo de un mundo. No se puede hacer aparecer en paredes, techos ni sobre otros usuarios.
Objetos agarrables
Un objeto agarrable puede ser tomado por el usuario y, a veces, también por otros usuarios.
Objetos consumibles
Un objeto consumible se destruye tras ser colocado y activado. Se puede apilar en el inventario.
Compañeros
Un Compañero es un objeto de tipo mascota que sigue al usuario a todas partes. Estos objetos tienen una etiqueta distintiva de "Compañero" en la Tienda. Un Compañero permanece invocado y sigue al usuario entre instancias en lugar de tener que volver a invocarse cada vez, y solo puede haber un Compañero activo a la vez. Los Compañeros incluyen un sistema de reposicionamiento, animaciones personalizadas de aparición y desaparición, y comportamiento de seguimiento, y se pueden personalizar desde su pantalla de Detalles en el Menú Rápido, una sección dedicada del Menú de Acción, o desde el Inventario. A diferencia de los Props, los Compañeros no se pueden ocultar ni desactivar por mundos o instancias, aunque un usuario puede ocultar su propio Compañero o los de otros usuarios.

Configuración de contenido
Los creadores de mundos pueden desactivar los objetos en la sección "Configuración de contenido predeterminada" editando un mundo en el sitio web, en caso de que estén causando problemas o no sean deseables. Los Props también se pueden desactivar según su función desde la página de Detalles del mundo en el sitio web; la primera categoría de función disponible es "Props que modifican el movimiento del jugador", la cual abarca los props que cambian la velocidad de movimiento de un usuario, añaden la capacidad de teletransportarse o afectan al movimiento de cualquier otra forma. VRChat ha indicado que en el futuro se podrían añadir categorías de funciones adicionales.

Los objetos aparecen en una capa dedicada de Unity llamada "Item". En versiones más antiguas del SDK, esta capa se denominaba "reserved3".

THE REFERENCE CUBE
The "THE REFERENCE CUBE" is the first item that was released when the items first arrived in the Open Beta.

Portable Winterizer
The "Portable Winterizer" was the first consumable item that was available for purchase with VRChat Credits. On December 10, 2025, the item was changed to be a permanent, infinite use item instead of a consumable, after community feedback was taken into consideration.[4]
Users that purchased, or were gifted, the "Portable Winterizer" were granted a non-consumable version of the item. The consumable version of the item is still available in user's inventories.

Trivia
- Items were initially called "Props" during early development. "Props" is now the name of the non-companion item category.
