VRChat Wiki Rules and Guidelines

So, you wanna help edit this wiki, yeah? Ya gotta follow a few rules, first.

Type of permitted content

At this moment, the following types of pages are permitted on this wiki.

Official Pages

Official pages are written by the VRChat Wiki Team. Edits cannot be made by users, but they can discuss on the article's Talk page.

  • Patch notes.
  • Documentation of features.
  • “User manual” information, like controls, system requirements, UI and menu layout.

Page and image formatting

Here, we’ll link to sub-articles and pages that dictate and facilitate the organization and consistency of pages and images in our Wiki.

Remember that these articles can become outdated as time passes, consensus changes, and new elements are introduced to VRChat.

Verification

Information added to the wiki should be accurate and avoid misleading readers. Content that exists in VRChat does not require references, as the platform itself (and the content within) provides the source. Editors should use wiki links to direct readers to the relevant information.

When relevant, links to the VRChat Creator Documentation should be provided, as should links to Unity Documentation.

Information regarding upcoming features or functionality should not be documented if it is speculative. If a feature or function has been documented officially (say, via a Dev Update on the official forum), it should be linked where appropriate as a source.

Discussion Pages

Discussion pages, commonly known as "talk pages" are available in the Discussion section of an article or page. Be sure to include a Heading and name for the heading in regards to the topic being discussed, followed by the content in the body below your heading. Please end your discussion with your username, date, and time after a message!

e.g. Hello, I wanted to debate the context for this. Can you reply soon? Thanks! -Your name (talk) HH:MM, DD Month Year (UTC)

Personal Conduct and Disputes

Back-and-forth edit and reversions typically can arise from disagreements over changes made by users, leading to repeated reversals or modifications in a brief period. Disputes may happen, however: VRChat Wiki, like many formal knowledgebases will remain civil when it comes to disputing. To prevent this, edit summaries should clarify modifications, and politely approaching a neutral resolution on Discussion pages on the article or user page are encouraged to help settle disputes. Do not harass or be uncivil anywhere on the VRChat Wiki, including Discussion pages. It is advised to cease altering disputed sections of articles until there is an agreement. Emphasizing the importance of assuming good faith is crucial, as most contributors aim to enhance the Wiki despite having varying views on the best approach.
