An avatar raid is a scenario in VRChat where a small or large group of users, use an avatar, or a similar category of avatars in the same instance, to entertain or annoy other users through expressive character roleplay.

Overview

Any single avatar can be used for an avatar raid, or each user can choose to be a character from a certain anime, or video game series, as an example. While there is not necessarily a goal for an avatar raid, generally, the act of roleplaying the character can be entertaining for the person in the raid, and can be more enjoyable with a group of people.
