The VRChat Camera is an in-game tool that allows users to take photos to capture their experiences in VRChat.
How to access
There are multiple ways to access the camera in VRChat:
- Open the Action Menu, select Tools, and select Camera.
- Open the Quick Menu and click on the Camera tab at its bottom. The Quick Menu provides options for all camera modes.
- Double-click the Camera button at the bottom of the Quick Menu. This will immediately take out or put away the camera.
Types
- Photo Camera: A standard camera for taking pictures.
- Icon Camera (Available for VRChat+ only) : Use this to take a photo that is saved to their Gallery to use for their nameplate and Group icons.
- Gallery Camera (Available for VRChat+ only) : Use this to take a photo that is saved to their Gallery to put on their profile, Group banners and invite photos.
- Screenshot: Desktop users can take a Screenshot here that is saved to their VRChat photo folder on their hard drive. Can also be used by pressing the F12 key for a regular screenshot or Ctrl+F12 for a high resolution screenshot.
- Multilayer Camera: Takes several pictures in quick succession with different layers applied, but does not support focus or filters and may cause frame lag.
- Stream Camera: Used for streaming or recording your view instead of what you see directly through your viewport. This will show the camera's perspective in the VRChat Desktop window, instead of the point of view of the user.
- Invite Photo Camera (Available for VRChat+ only) : Optionally take a photo to send along with an invite or a response.
UI
The camera UI includes several icons and indicators:
- X in the top left: Exit the camera.

- Look at Me: Camera follows where your head is facing.
- Auto Level: Keeps the camera level, preventing tilting.
- Focus: Controls the focus mode.
- Full Auto: Automatically sets the aperture and focal distance.
- Semi Auto: Allows adjustment of aperture only.
- Manual: Allows adjustment of both aperture and focal distance.
- Pins: Saved settings for focus and filter configurations.
- Mask: Determines which layers are included in pictures.
- Local User: Includes the user and their avatar.

- Lock (VR Only): Lock the camera so that it cannot be held. This can only be used in VR.

Holding down the scroll wheel on desktop, and using a combination of mouse movement and 'WASD' keys will pilot the camera around. In VR, clicking the "Fly" button and using the left and right joysticks after pressing the trigger will toggle movement between the camera, and your avatar.

- Focal Distance: At which distance the camera is focused to.
- Aperture: How open the aperture is, the lower this number the more blur appears on everything that is not in focus.
Accessing saved photos
- Windows operating systems will store VRChat photos using the default file path of the Pictures folder
C:/Users/(Owner)/Pictures/VRChat
. Photographs will be sorted by month and year. On desktop and PCVR versions of VRChat, opening the Camera tab in the Quick Menu and choosing "Open Photos Folder" will directly open the File Explorer to that file path.
- Steam users can access their Steam screenshots, separate from VRChat photos using the default file path
