Usage of generative AI
The VRChat Wiki strives to provide accurate, high-quality, and community-driven content. As generative AI becomes more accessible, it's important to establish clear guidelines for its responsible use in contributing to the wiki.
Responsible use of generative AI
- Human Oversight is Required: Any content generated using AI must undergo human review to ensure its accuracy and quality. AI-generated content should never be used as-is without evaluation or adjustment by the contributor. Generative AI models are not inherently reliable and can include factual inaccuracies, irrelevant information, or misinterpretations without human supervision.
- AI-Assisted Writing vs. AI-Generated Writing: Using AI to assist in the writing process, such as rephrasing sentences, brainstorming ideas, or overcoming writer’s block, is acceptable. The contributor must remain the primary writer and ensure the final content reflects their own input and judgment.
- Completely AI-generated contributions with minimal human oversight are not allowed. This includes submissions where the contributor relies entirely on AI without making meaningful adjustments or verifying accuracy.
- Proofreading and Corrections: Tools for grammar checking, proofreading, or minor corrections (e.g. Grammarly) are permitted, provided contributors verify that the corrections are appropriate and accurate.
- AI and Page Translations: Using AI-based translation tools (e.g DeepL, Google Translate) to an extent is allowed, only if the contributor has sufficient knowledge of the language being translated. This ensures they can evaluate and correct any inaccuracies or contextual errors in the AI’s output.
- Contributors who lack sufficient knowledge of a language should not attempt to translate pages of that language, whether using AI or any other tools. Translating without understanding the language risks significant errors and misinterpretations, compromising the quality and credibility of the wiki.
Remember, AI is a tool, not a replacement, any use of generative AI should be treated as a supplementary tool, much like seeking advice from another person. The final responsibility for content quality lies with the contributor. If a contributor relies on AI-generated content without reviewing it, it directly undermines the wiki's credibility of providing trustworthy information. Any edits found to have been generated by AI without proper review may undone. Repeat violations utilizing low-quality or inaccurate AI content may result in restrictions on the contributor’s ability to edit.
