This article highlights the process of linking an existing platform account to a regular VRChat account.
Platform accounts include pre-existing accounts on the following devices:
- Steam
- Meta
- PICO
- Viveport
- Discord[upcoming 2025.4.1]
Benefits of a full VRChat account
A full VRChat account enables users to:
- Earn Trust Ranks
- Retain the simplicity of one-click logins
- Apply to enroll in the Creator Economy Program
- Change their screenname
- Removes the generated four-digit 'discriminator' code at the end of their screenname
- Gain access to Login
- Gain authorization access on platforms with VRChat SSO
- VRChat Wiki
- VRChat Feedback Board
- VRChat Ask Forums
- Third-party vendors that utilize VRChat SSO
Pre-link considerations
Favorites limit
Upon merging, if the total number of favorites from both accounts exceeds the platform's maximum limit, users may retain more favorites than typically allowed. However, to add new favorites, users must remove existing ones to fit within the limit. It is generally advised to link into a fresh account.
Purchase restrictions
Users who have made purchases through the Creator Economy on any platform (Steam, Meta, Pico, Viveport, Google) cannot link their accounts into a full VRChat account. This restriction is temporary and expected to be lifted.
Linking process

To merge a platform account into a full VRChat account, follow these steps:
- Log into the Steam, Meta, Pico, Google, or Viveport account you wish to link.
- Open the Main Menu in VRChat.
- Navigate to Settings.
- Locate and click the Link Account button below the Exit option.
- If the Link Account button is not visible, you are likely already logged into a full VRChat account.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to link your account.
If there are still difficulties with linking your account, contact VRChat support at VRChat Support.
Post-link
Linking is permanent and irreversible. Each full VRChat account can be linked to one account from each supported platform simultaneously. It can take up to one day for account data to fully merge. For any issues during or after the process, contact VRChat support at VRChat Support.
Upcoming support for Discord accounts
[Reason: VRChat has a recent announcement to offer VRChat platform account service for Discord.]

On September 25, 2025[1], a posted Developer Update demonstrates a future capability to link a VRChat account, and Discord account together. Users will also have the ability to create a platformed VRChat account, and be given the option to log in, using Discord. Additionally, users will be able to unlink their accounts at any time, through Discord or VRChat.
As of October 16, 2025, the Open Beta for 2025.4.1 introduced the ability to log into VRChat, using Discord, as well as linking accounts.
