Trivia
- VRCat's name is a play on VRChat.
- VRCat was inspired by the cat of VRChat's Head of Community Tupper, Trogdor[1].
- VRCat's design originated from a call between VRChat's Art Director Rocktopus, then-Chief Creative Officer Ron, and Tupper, in collaboration with an outside design firm. The orange tabby appearance was chosen after Tupper looked at his own orange tabby cat.[2]
- VRCat's age as "soft canon", treating it as roughly five years measured from the character's first public appearance, while noting that it is not officially fixed.[2]
- VRCat's arch-nemesis was VRRat. However since VRChat's release of the festive stickers they appear to now be friends[3].
- VRCat's Quick Menu dialogue has numerous grammatical errors and inconsistencies with capitalization, such as VRChat Udon being referred to as both "Udon" and "UDON".
- VRCat's dialogue has several references to pop culture and internet memes:
- Why do I hear boss music?: Reference to a Terraria meme featuring a player character saying "why do I hear boss music"[4].
- Sorry Dave, I can't do that right now: Reference to a line in 2001: A Space Odyessey.
- Perfect Gem Activated: Reference to the "Chat Gem" in Diablo II[5].
- Zug zug: Reference to World of Warcraft's Orcish language, a form of acknowledgement and agreement[6].
- Reticulating Splines: Reference to several Maxis games, such as SimCity, SimCopter, The Sims up to Sims 4. Often showing up in loading screens.
- Downloading more RAM: Reference to a meme where an internet forum user asked "how to download more RAM," this is amusing as RAM is physical hardware that must be bought, and cannot be downloaded[7].
- VRCat.club (Archive.org link) was an unofficial forum for the VRChat community that predates VRCat and the current ask.vrchat.com forums
- VRCats back can be seen when you flip your quick menu around visually.
