Between the default role of User, there are several other roles involved in the oversight and maintenance of the VRCWiki. This document seeks to define those roles and their responsibilities, as well as the qualifications for receiving them and the expectations once granted.

Automoderated Users

Automoderated Users are normal users who have shown their investment in the wiki and trustworthiness in following it's policies and guidelines. They are specifically selected and granted the ability to have their additions/edits automatically approved in the official namespace. Otherwise they do not have any special moderating powers or wiki responsibilities.

Qualifications

Should be an active contributor to the wiki for at least a week, with no major infractions, and can be appointed by a Maintainer so long as there's no reasonable objections from other Maintainers.

Responsibilities

There are no particular responsibilities held by Automoderated Users not inherent to all users.

Expectations

To abide the policies and guidelines, especially in respect to the official spaces. Violating the rules can see these privileges revoked.

Proofreaders

Proofreaders are granted the ability to review in-progress translations before they can be shown on an article. Otherwise they do not have any special moderating powers or wiki responsibilities.

Qualifications

Should be a Proofreader on the VRChat Application Crowdin. The qualifications to become a Proofreader on the Wiki may become more lenient in the future to allow for more proofreaders.

Responsibilities

There are no particular responsibilities held by Proofreaders not inherent to all users.

Expectations

To abide the policies and guidelines, especially in respect to the official spaces. Violating the rules can see these privileges revoked.

Maintainers

Maintainers are considered a part of the VRC Wiki team, and as such have a higher degree of expectation/responsibility. They have the power to add/edit/delete in almost all content spaces (short of certain protected wiki spaces), to approve edits by users, to moderate users for misconduct, and to grant Automoderated User and Proofreader status. They are also involved in the decision making process when it comes to determining policy, nominating new Maintainers, and choosing from among themselves the Organizers.

Qualifications

Generally speaking Maintainers should be chosen from those who have demonstrated a consistent and active investment in the wiki, both in direct contributions as well as in discussions on the talk pages and/or Discord. They should be exemplary in their dedication to keeping with policy, and in showing themselves to be trustworthy and responsible. They should not have any major infractions, and no major substantial objections from Maintainers. VRC Staff have veto power.

Responsibilities

Maintainers are able to freely edit the official spaces, protect pages, grant Automoderated User status, sanction/ban users, delete articles, and approve changes that are in the moderation queue, all according to the established policies. Maintainers are responsible for the health of the wiki, should take the initiative in bringing up discussions and carrying out plans for its improvement, and are involved in determining and upholding wiki policy, as well as choosing prospective Organizers from among themselves.

Expectations

Maintainers should remain reasonably active on the wiki, both in contributions and moderation responsibilities, as well as being involved in discussions on the Discord and talk pages, and to attend meetings when they can. As a volunteer position there's no explicit minimums, but after general inactivity for a period of two months of unannounced absence, the Maintainer may be approached by an Organizer to see if they're still interested in upholding the role. If not, or if there's no response or no change is seen over the following two weeks, they may be removed from the position. If they return and wish to be reinstated they can request for such, and unless there's a major substantial objection it will be granted. Abuse of privileges or refusal to abide by rules and policy are grounds for removal from the group.

Organizers

Organizers are Maintainers who have been selected for a higher degree of responsibility and expectation, but are otherwise equal in general decision making power. Their primary focus is in organizing their fellow Maintainers in meetings and discussions, mediating disagreements and maintaining order, general administrative tasks, and to act as liaisons between the VRC Wiki volunteers and VRC staff. In all other regards they are themselves still considered Maintainers.

Qualifications

In order to maintain balance and effectiveness in the position, the desired number of Organizers should be three. When there's a vacancy, Organizers should be chosen by consensus of the Maintainers from the pool of Maintainers. Candidates should have demonstrated a consistent degree of active involvement and investment in wiki contributions and discussions. They should not have any major infractions, and no major substantial objections from Maintainers. VRC Staff have veto power.

Responsibilities

Organizers are responsible for organizing and running meetings, acting as liaisons between VRC Wiki volunteers and VRC staff, to mediate arguments and discussions, to check in with inactive Maintainers, as well as to be the ones to sanction them for policy violations, and to perform the administrative functions entrusted to them.

Expectations

Organizers should be reasonably active in wiki contributions, discussions, and moderation abilities, and to attend/oversee/guide meetings. They should be diligent to resolve disputes and to communicate between the VRC Wiki team and VRC Staff when necessary, and keep up with the unique administrative tasks entrusted to them. As a volunteer position there are no explicit minimums, but given their unique role and responsibilities should generally be as if not more involved and active than the already reasonable expectations for Maintainers. After a period of a month of unannounced absence, the Organizer may be approached by fellow Organizers to see if they're still interested in upholding the role. If not, or if there's no response or no change is seen over the following week, they may be moved back to Maintainer. Abuse of privileges or refusal to abide by rules and policy are grounds for removal from the group, and any concerns can be collectively discussed by Maintainers and brought to VRC Staff for their decision and intervention.
