The VRChat Camera allows users to take photos and record their experiences in VRChat. This guide explains how to access and use the camera, the different camera modes, and the various settings available.

Accessing the Camera

There are two ways to access the camera in VRChat:

  • Open the radial menu, select Tools, and then select Camera.
  • Open the main menu and click on the camera icon. The main menu provides options for all camera modes.

Camera Types

  • Photo Camera: A standard camera for taking pictures.
  • Multilayer Camera: Takes several pictures quickly, but does not support focus or filters and may cause frame lag.
  • Stream Camera: Used for streaming or recording your view instead of what you see directly through your headset.

Camera UI

The camera UI includes several icons and indicators:

  • X in the top left: Exit the camera.
  • Camera and photo icons: Indicate which camera is active.
  • Pin icon: Indicates the active pin (saved settings).
  • Focus icon: Indicates if focus is on and which focus mode is selected.
  • Filter circles: Show whether a filter is on and which filter is selected.
  • Turning circle on top: Indicates if the camera is facing away or towards you.
  • Turning arrow on the right: Resets the zoom level.
  • Zoom line on the right: Adjusts zoom; down for zooming out (fisheye lens) and up for zooming in.
  • Arrow at the bottom: Brings up the menu.

Camera Menu

  • Take Photo: Takes a photo immediately.
  • Timed (5s): Takes a photo after a 5-second delay with a countdown sound.
  • Camera Mode: Different modes for the camera.
  • Anchor: Determines where the camera is attached.
    • Default: Attached to the player.
    • Local: Follows player movement but not head movement.
    • World: Attached to the world, independent of player movement.
  • Behavior: Adjusts camera performance.
    • Smoothed: Stabilizes video for smoother footage.
    • Look at Me: Camera follows where your head is facing.
    • Auto Level: Keeps the camera level at 90 degrees, preventing tilting.
  • Focus: Controls the focus mode.
    • Full Auto: Automatically sets aperture and focal distance.
    • Semi Auto: Allows adjustment of aperture only.
    • Manual: Allows adjustment of both aperture and focal distance.
  • Pins: Saved settings for focus and filter configurations.
  • Mask: Determines what is included in pictures.
    • Local User: Includes the player and their avatar.
    • Remote User: Includes other players.
    • Environment: Includes the environment or map.
    • Green Screen: Replaces the environment with a green screen.
    • UI: Includes UI elements like the radial menu and camera interface.
  • Lens Visibility: Sets how the camera is displayed.
    • Off: Shows only a small light.
    • Ghost: Displays a light blue transparent camera.
    • Solid: Displays a solid camera.
  • Filters: Adds visual filters to the camera. Only one filter can be active at a time.
