Space Jam 2024 is an event hosted on VRChat, and organized by the National Space Society of Australia (NSSA) starting on March 1, 2024[1].

Timeline

  • Submission deadline: March 1 - April 5, 11:59 pm EST
  • Winners announced: April 12
  • VRChat feature: April 12 - April 26, aligning with International Day of Human Space Flight
  • New Horizons Summit showcase: May 9

Evaluation criteria

  • Creativity and Originality: Unleash innovative VR concepts that blend historic insights with futuristic visions within the theme of space exploration.
  • Technical Execution: Showcase advanced technical skills through sophisticated VR experiences that demonstrate innovative use of VR technology and interactive design.
  • Alignment with Theme: Projects should deeply engage with the theme of space exploration, showcasing creative interpretations and future possibilities.
  • Community Service and Functionality: Develop functional, entertaining, or relaxation-focused projects that enhance social interaction and community engagement within VRChat.
  • Optional Bonus: Projects compatible with both PC and Android will receive bonus points. However, judging will primarily assess the PC version of the worlds.

Rewards

First place of the Space Jam received $4,000 AUD. Second place received $2,500 AUD, and third place received $1,500 AUD. There were also three runner-ups, and three 'special mentions' that were showcased within VRChat. Each winner was also given the opportunity to showcase their project at the New Horizons Summit on May 9, 2024.
