Trans Academy is a world, VRChat community, and a non-profit 501(c)(3) charity organization, with a focus on education and inclusion towards VRChat's transgender and LGBTQIA+ users and allies.
Overview
Founded in September of 2022 by Tizzy, Trans Academy was created as a world intended as a dedicated social outlet for transgender VRChat users. In November 2022, the 'Trans' group was created with the announcement of Groups in Open Beta to assign a designated group for Trans Academy. Groups originally had a capacity of 10,000 users, and the 'Trans' group had met the capacity limit[1] until all groups received an update in June of 2023 to be able to hold up to 100,000 users. In January of 2024, Trans Academy became recognized as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization by the IRS[2].
World
Trans Academy was published to Community Labs on September 28, 2022 and hurdled over Labs on the same day. The design for the world was inspired by the 2013 anime 'Little Witch Academia'. The world has five primary hotspots: Spawn, the Square, the Café, the Stage, and the Ship.
Spawn
The spawn area provides resources in text, as well as teleportation buttons to the other hotspots of the world. There is also a portal to 'TA underground', a sister world that hosts music-related events for Trans Academy. Leading out of spawn, is a bridge that goes directly to the Square.
Square
The Square features a decorative fountain in the center, and paths leading to either the Stage on the right, or the Café on the left. Pride flags of many types surround the Square.
Café
The Café is the primary hotspot where most users hang out. As the name implies, the café is a lounge with a coffee and espresso maker prefab; there are also couches, tables, a video player, a mirror, and pens available. Walking past the café will lead to a beach, giving view to the Ship, and an inaccessible island.
Stage
The Stage features a spacious pavillion and an outdoor amphitheatre that has a video player for presentations and seminars to be given during events.
Ship
The Ship is a colonial pirate ship that is isolated in the body of water not far from the beach. You can teleport to the Ship by clicking on a plush (blåhaj) shark outside of the Café, or by interacting with one of the teleportation buttons labeled 'Ship'.
