Accessories are cosmetic elements that can be placed on any usable avatar. Accessories are managed from the Accessories section of the Avatar tab and are separate from the Inventory. Up to 5 accessories can be placed on a single avatar at a time.

Unlike Items, accessories have no scripting, are not interactable, and travel with the user between worlds without needing to be spawned in. Worlds cannot restrict accessory usage.

VRChat creates accessories internally and collaborates with select community creators.

Overview

When a user adds an accessory to their avatar, it is automatically attached to a default avatar bone (such as the head, hips, or arm) chosen to best suit the accessory. Users can reassign the accessory to any bone on the avatar's skeleton through the attachment controls.

Each accessory can be repositioned, rotated, and scaled using on-screen controls or the precise adjustment panel on the right side of the editor. Some accessories also offer additional customization options, such as color changes or toggling visual elements. Accessories use VRChat's Toon Standard shader.

Looks

A Look is a saved combination of accessories and a specific avatar. When an accessory is added to an avatar for the first time, VRChat automatically creates a new Look. Users can create and manage multiple Looks from the Looks section of the Avatar tab, allowing quick switching between different accessory combinations.

History

Accessories were intended to be released with the release of 2026.1.3, but during the open beta cycle, it was decided to delay its release until "it's ready for prime time". [1] Accessories beta testing would continue alongside the regular Open Beta on a separate Steam beta branch.
