Selfie Expression

Selfie Expression enables you to use your webcam to add tracking to your desktop avatar! This feature is currently in Early Access for VRC+ subscribers, although it is likely to become a general-access feature in the future.
What It Can Do
- Tracks your facial expressions
- Tracks head and eye movement
- Tracks your hands
This system uses built-in visemes and your webcam, meaning it should work for most avatars with no additional effort required.
Why It’s Exciting
Selfie Expression adds an entirely new level of interaction for desktop users:
- Wave to your friends
- Smile
- Give high-fives
- Pat heads
- Much more!
Enabling Selfie Expression
Because Selfie Expression requires the use of your webcam (and because every user has a different environment or system), there are new options related to this feature in Settings under Tracking & IK. You must enable it here before it will work.
Privacy and Performance
All webcam data is processed locally — the image is never sent to other users or to us. However, because it uses your computer’s camera resources, it may be a little heavy on some systems. Please keep this in mind.
Additional Notes
- If you notice your avatar’s eyes aren’t tracking, it’s likely you haven’t set up eyelook in the SDK. Make sure to configure it properly.
- Since this feature is in Early Access, some aspects may change over time or vary based on hardware.
