VRChat Wiki Rules and Guidelines

Welcome to the official knowledgebase for VRChat! When publishing content, you are still bound by the Terms of Service and Community Guidelines of the platform, in addition to other policies set by VRChat, and the Wiki. VRChat's Wiki is overseen by a collective of volunteer maintainers, and organizers appointed by VRChat, Inc.

There are rules, and guidelines that must be followed to keep the content of the VRChat Wiki scholarly, professional, and reader-friendly. Please follow these guidelines, and have them in mind when contributing to an article or page.

Type of permitted content

In general, all edits should be written from a neutral point of view (NPOV), and should also follow the Manual of Style (MOS). If you are involved with the creation, development, or community management (primary source) of content within a certain article, direct engagement with the article is prohibited. For more information, please read VRChat Wiki's Conflict of Interest (COI) policy.

VRChat is a platform for users, aged thirteen years and older. All content must be age-appropriate. Please refrain from inappropriate, and sexually suggestive language.

The following types of content are permitted for creation on this Wiki:

Official pages

Official pages are curated by the VRChat Wiki team, and contain information about official VRChat worlds, features, and other topics provided by the base platform. Edits can be suggested by users, but will have to be approved by a Maintainer after publishing. Any user can freely initiate, or discuss topics on the article's "Talk" page.

These official pages will contain a noticebox on the top, like such:

Official VRChat articles will contain information, and citations, such as the following:

  • Patch notes.
  • Documentation of features.
  • “User manual” information, like controls, system requirements, UI and menu layout.

The information on official pages will be as accurate as possible, at the time of the previous edit. These changes may potentially contain outdated information, so it is encouraged to suggest an edit, if it is incorrect or missing!

Community pages

Community pages can freely be created and edited by any user. These articles involve summaries of content, made by the VRChat community! You can get started, by trying to search for a community article by going to the Search Bar and typing Community: followed by a subject you want to know more about. If there is not yet an article for it, you can get one started!

Community articles will contain a noticebox on the top, like such:

These noticeboxes should be added to the top of an article by typing: {{Noticebox/Community}}.

Guides

Guides are informative articles on guiding unfamiliar users with a subject, and/or aiding in performing a task step-by-step. Guides are Community pages, that have [[Category:Guide]] listed within the source code of an article.

Files

Files are images that can be added to a page, to visually enhance the quality of an article. Files can be uploaded by any user at Special:Upload. Images will need to be pre-approved by the VRChat Wiki team, before adding it to an article. It is typically best practice to upload images in .webp format.

Please try to expunge mentions of usernames, or names of Groups from images when possible. Do not include any sensitive information, or inappropriate or sexually suggestive content.

Verification

Information contributed to VRChat Wiki should be accurate, and avoid misleading readers. Any external information should be cited, or use Wikipedia links to direct readers to the relevant information.

When relevant, links to the Official VRChat source VRChat Creator Documentation should be provided, as should links to Unity Documentation.

V · EUnreleased or beta content!
This content is currently unreleased or in beta, be aware it could change!

Information regarding upcoming features or functionality should not be documented if it is rumored, or speculative. If a feature or function has been documented officially by VRChat, for example on a Developer Update, it should be cited as a source.

Discussion pages

Discussion pages, commonly known as "talk pages" are available in the Discussion section of an article or page. Be sure to include a heading, and name for the heading in regards to the topic being discussed, followed by the content in the body below your heading. Please end your discussion with four tildes to sign your post: ~~~~

Including four tildes, will sign the post like this: -Your name (talk) HH:MM, DD Month Year (UTC)

Personal conduct, and disputes

Back-and-forth edits, and reversions typically can arise from disagreements over changes made by users, leading to repeated reversals or modifications in a brief period.

Disputes may happen, however: VRChat Wiki, like many formal knowledgebases will remain civil when it comes to disputing. To prevent this, edit summaries should clarify modifications, and politely approach a neutral resolution on the discussion page of an article.

Alternatively, discussing a middle ground can be conducted on a user page to help settle disputes. Do not harass or be uncivil anywhere on the VRChat Wiki, including discussion pages. It is advised to cease altering disputed sections of articles until there is an agreement. Emphasizing the importance of assuming good faith is crucial, as most contributors aim to enhance the Wiki, but may have varying perspectives on the best approach.
