There's a variety of world types covering topics ranging from social hangouts, games, to avatar showcases, scenic views, and more. Each world can have multiple sessions running at the same time, referred to as instances, which have a global region they're linked to, a maximum user capacity set by the world author, and an instance type that controls who can join and moderate the world instance.
Entdecken und beitreten von Welten

Users can start discovering worlds before launching VRChat for the first time, by logging into the VRChat website, or using the main page of VRChat on mobile devices. When launching VRChat for the first time, users will spawn in their home world.
Heimatwelt
The home world is a world, a user joins when launching VRChat. By default, the home world is set to the VRChat Home, but can be changed to any world[note 1] available within VRChat. When clicking on a world, under the actions section, click Make Home to set that world as your home world.
The home world's instance type and region can also be changed. By default, the instance type is Invite and the region is automatically set to one best for you. This can be changed in the Comfort & Safety settings.
- ↑ Users cannot set their home world to worlds that are, private, or that are in Community Labs.
"Worlds" Main Menu tab
Users can navigate to the "Worlds" tab by opening the Quick Menu, and clicking the Worlds button on the Launch Pad or clicking the "Worlds" tab on the Main Menu. By default, the page will display VRCat's Variety Box, which features a random world from all world categories.
Zuletzt besuchte, und favorisierte Welten
On the left side of the World tab, there is a collapsed dropdown titled My Worlds. The dropdown contains worlds that the user has recently visited, favorite world lists, recently updated favorited worlds, and uploaded worlds.
Suchen
On the top left of the Worlds tab, users can use the "Search Worlds" button to search for a specific world by title, description, tag, author, etc. These can also be sorted by Relevance, Last Updated, and Popular.
Users can also use the Search tab on the Main Menu. This tab includes a variety of different search terms for discovering worlds, sorted into two different categories: Recommended Searches, and Quick World Searches. Quick World Searches can be shuffled to spot different search terms.
World categories
World categories, also known as world rows, are a dynamic, or curated selection of worlds. They can be accessed on the left side of the "Worlds" tab, under the "Featured Worlds" heading.
The categories include:
- VRCat's Variety Box
- Spotlight Mobile
- Popular
- Active
- New & Noteworthy
- Avatar Worlds
- Games
- Spotlight Cross Platform
- Spotlight PC
- New
- Updated Recently
- Community Labs
- Random
Joining
Clicking on a world tile anywhere on the "Worlds" tab will bring up the dedicated world page for that world. The world tile is represented with a thumbnail & the world name, giving insight into its contents. This page features more details about the world, such as it's name, the author, description, actions and more.
To join the world, users can simply click the "Join" button. Alternatively, users can drop a portal to the world as well, by clicking "Drop Portal". The instance of the world a user joins can be changed on the right side, or a new instance can be created under the Actions heading.
Portale
See also Portals for further information.
Portals provide a quick way for users to access a specific world and instance, without having to individually find it through the menu. The portal will display the world image inside itself, and it will usually have the title above alongside other details such as user capacity and region. By default, walking forward into a portal, will transfer the user to the associated world, but settings can be changed so that it requires user input (Portal Prompt), to prevent accidental travel. Portals will always come in two distinct forms:
Statische Portale
Worlds may contain 'static portals' that they feature to serve as a link to other worlds. These are part of the world, and as such, usually stay there permanently, ready for people to interact with. If a user walks through a static portal, a countdown, starting from thirty will begin, to which any following user can proceed into the same instance until the countdown expires.
Nutzer-Portale
Users can place portals to a world instance, by searching for a world in the World tab, then choosing New Instance, followed by the instance type, and finalized with Drop Portal. Portals can be placed down on most surfaces in the world, except near the designated spawn point(s). These appear the same as static portals, except the countdown timer initiates when the portal is dropped by the user, starting at thirty seconds. The timer can be extended, by having more users enter the portal. Once the timer expires, the portal disappears.
Erstellen und hochladen von Welten
Um eine VRChat-Welt erstellen und hochladen zu können, muss ein Benutzer den Vertrauensrang "User" erreicht haben.
To get started with creating your world, download the VRChat Creator Companion, which will help with the installation of the latest compatible version of Unity for VRChat, and install the VRChat SDK into a world project. Uploading a world publicly for the first time, will place it into community labs before formally being published.
Short links
Worlds can be shared using VRChat's vrch.at short link domain combined with the world's ID, for example https://vrch.at/<worldId>. This redirects to the world's page on the VRChat website (https://vrchat.com/home/world/<worldId>).
