Nikei is an avatar uploaded by VRChat and used be one of the default avatars. The avatar has had a great impact on the community's perspective on "custom avatars" and inspired others to create one of their own.
Origin
Nikei was created by Morph3D (Tafi) to showcase one of their Models that they've created. The first recorded sighting of Nikei was On 4 Nov, 2016 when Tafi was showing off one of their portable handheld windows they've created for the VR space [1]. Over the years Morph3D changed their name to Tafi and has made numerous posts including Nikei where they promote their newest version of the Nikei and promote the customizability and giving recognition to the meme "custom avatar".[2]
"Custom Avatar"
The saying "custom avatar" originates from a video uploaded On Jan 15, 2019 by Jameskii[3] , Where people gathered and showed off their creations of different variations of Nikei. And later made another iteration of it was shown in a video that was uploaded On Sep 10, 2019 by Jameskii[4] where even more of these versions get showcased.
The Hall of Nikeis
"The Hall of Nikeis" is an world made/uploaded by Pumgumgum[5] where countless creations from over the years gather in a singular world up for display. Players such as VRPill and Tupper have visited this world and VRPill himself has contributed to this time capsule of a world where more then 100+ Variants of Nikeis are setup for display for the public.
