Gli avatar fungono da modello rappresentativo agli utenti in VRChat. Sono il medium primario per cui gli utenti si esprimono nel contesto della VR. Attraverso gli avatar gli utenti possono esprimere al meglio la loro personalità, interagire nei mondi, o esplorare nuove identità in maniera creativa ed immersiva. Gli avatar prendono forme varie e la comunità di VRChat ne ha creati in grande quantità, ogniuno con il suo stile ed estetica. La scelta dell'avatar è personale, derivata da gusti e preferenze, ed è anche possibile crearne tramite VRChat SDK.

Cambiare Avatar

Quando un utente entra per la prima volta in VRChat, gli è conferito un avatar predefinito, l'amabile Robot. Oltre all'avatar predefinito, l'utente può scegliere l'avatar che più preferisce in una selezione ufficiale di VRChat. Questi, però, non sono che una minima frazione del catalogo di avatar disponibili.

Lista Consigliati

VRChat gestisce una lista di avatar pubblici, ottimizzati nella performance e creati per adattarsi a vari stili e preferenze. Gli utenti possono scoprire e provare questi avatar andando nella sezione Avatar nel Menù Principale selezionando "Public" o "Legacy".

Una volta trovato un avatar, selezionalo e premi il pulsante "Usa Avatar".

Il Menù Rapido con un utente selezionato, i pulsanti "Clona Avatar" e "Aggiungi Avatar" sono nella sezione "Azioni Utente".

Clonare

Gli utenti possono clonare gli avatar direttamente da altri utenti nella stessa istanza, premendo il pulsante "Clona Avatar" nel Menù Rapido. Se questa opzione non è disponibile, vuol dire che l'utente selezionato ha disabilitato la funzionalità di clonaggio dei suoi avatar, o sta utilizzato una avatar marchiato come privato che gli è stato conferito esclusivamente.

Aggiungere Ai Preferiti

Gli utenti possono salvare gli avatar che preferiscono per uso futuro. Salvare avatar farà si che compaiano nella sezione "Preferiti" nella pagina degli avatar nel Menù Principale. Ogni sezione può contenere al massimo 50 avatar. Con un abbonamento attivo a VRChat+ potrai ottenere altre 5 sezioni in cui salvare i tuoi avatar, per un ammontare di 300 avatar!

Ci sono molteplici modi per salvare un avatar. Se da salvare è quello che stai indossando, vai nella pagina degli avatar nel menù principale, e clicca il pulsante "Salva Avatar" sotto l'anteprima avatar. Se, invece, l'avatar da salvare è indossato da qualcun'altro, seleziona l'utente e premi il pulsante "Salva Avatar" nel menù rapido.

Pedestals and avatar worlds

Avatars can also be discovered on avatar pedestals. These are typically found within worlds under the "Avatar Worlds" category. These pedestals display previews of avatars, which users can interact with to clone from.

VRChat avatars are designed differently for PC and mobile platforms, primarily due to the limitations of devices like the Oculus Quest, Android, and iOS systems. Consequently, some avatars may not be viewable or usable on all devices. Detailed information on these limitations can be found in the following resources:

Creators can configure an avatar to be compatible with multiple platforms by uploading multiple versions of the same avatar ID¹⁾. If an avatar can't be shown to the user, it will first try to display an Impostor²⁾ of that avatar. If no impostor has been generated, the user will instead be displayed as a Fallback avatar.

The user's Fallback avatar can be changed in the Avatar menu.

Performance Ranking

Avatars are ranked by performance thresholds. They go from Very Poor, to Poor, to Medium, to Good, to Excellent. This classification helps users understand the performance impact of their avatars on the overall VRChat experience. Examples of things that influence avatar performance rankings include mesh polygon count, material count, texture resolution, animator complexity; and avatar components such as PhysBones or constraints.

Creating and uploading

Users can enhance their VRChat experience by creating and uploading custom avatars, provided they comply with VRChat's Terms of Service. To upload an avatar, users must first attain the rank of "New User" and acquire the necessary tools, such as the recommended version of Unity and the VRChat SDK.

Once you have an uploaded avatar, you will be able to find them in the "Uploaded" section of your avatar list.
