VRChat comes with a whole host of social tools for users. Such as friends, invites, notes, and more!

Friending

Friending a user on VRChat will send them a request they can accept or decline. When added as a friend, a user can send invites to their instance to friends or request to join a friend's instance.

Friend Favoriting

Like with avatars and worlds, you can favorite a friend to add them to a list of people.

TODO: I feel like favoriting should be it's own page linked to since it's a much vaster feature? Topic of discussion probably.TrixxedHeart 2024/05/30 19:16 UTC

Notes

Notes are snippets of information you can attach to a user that only you can see, this can be used for anything. An example of the kind of information you could put in may be how you met a user, names they go by, or their username on other platforms.

User Profile

User Profiles are a personalized space where users can display information about themselves through fields such as their status, description, languages they speak, social links, and the groups they're in.

Statuses

Statuses can be set in the Quick Menu, Main Menu, or on the Official VRChat source VRChat Website and are used for the following: to control how easily a user's friends can join their instance; to vary whether a user's friends can see the instance they are currently in; to silence notifications; and to communicate an activity.

Statuses consist of a color as well as a customisable short sentence (up to 32 characters). There are four different statuses in VRChat:

Join Me (Blue)
Your friends can see the instance you are in and may join freely with identical rules to Online status. However, if the instance is private and unviewable, all invite requests from friends are automatically accepted as long as you have permission to accept them.
Online (Green)
Your friends can see the instance you are in and can join your instance without an invitation. However, your friends may not see or join the instance without an invite if the instance is deemed "private".

Your instance is viewable and joinable by friends without requesting an invite in the following cases:

  • The instance is Friends+, Group+, Public or Group Public.
  • the instance is Friends and either you or a mutual friend are the instance creator.
  • The instance is Group and your friends are a member of the group with permission to join the instance based on their group roles.
  • The instance is Invite or Invite+ and your friends are returning to the instance they created.
Ask Me (Orange)
Your friends cannot see the instance you are in. They must request an invite from you in order to be able to join, regardless of the instance's privacy.
Do Not Disturb (Red)
Your friends cannot see the instance you are in. They may request to join, but you will not receive any notifications.
