Removed misinformation: the main menu has no additional persistent controls — no "Respawn" or "Select" buttons, nor the row of icons (such as "Camera" or "Audio"), found in the quick menu.

VRChat makes use of several menu types that can be used to interact with different aspects of the platform. Most notably the Quick Menu, the Main Menu and the Action Menu. While these menus do serve distinct purposes and offer exclusive features, they often share the same functions and settings, presented in different formats better suited for different contexts.

Quick Menu

Quick Menu

See also Quick Menu for more detailed information.

The Quick Menu contains frequently used options and actions intended for rapid access. The options present are condensed versions of their counterparts in the Main Menu, with some features remaining exclusive. Examples include returning to the user's Home World, respawning, accessing Safety settings, the "Here" tab, and quick access to tools such as the Camera and microphone controls.

The Quick Menu may colloquially be referred to as the "Small" or "Square" menu. On PC, the default method to open it is by pressing the Escape key; in VR, by pressing B / Y (top thumb button on either hand); and on gamepads or mobile, by pressing the Menu button. The Quick Menu can be expanded into the Main Menu using the expand button in the top-right corner.

Main Menu

Main Menu

See also Main Menu for more detailed information.

The Main Menu is accessed by expanding the Quick Menu using the button in the top-right corner. It presents a full-screen interface centered around a tile-based "Launch Pad" layout, providing access to major VRChat systems and content discovery features.

The primary navigation tiles in the Main Menu include:

  • Live Now – Displays currently active and popular instances.
  • Worlds – Browse, search, and manage worlds.
  • Avatars – Browse, search, and manage avatars.
  • Social – Access friends, notifications, and user interactions.
  • Groups – View and manage VRChat Groups.
  • Shop – Access the Avatar Marketplace and other purchasable content.

The Main Menu may colloquially be referred to as the "Big" Menu by users.

Action Menu

See also Action Menu for more detailed information.

VRChat's Action Menu

The Action Menu houses a variety of actions generally intended to be quickly used during social interaction. Options present themselves as segments in circular, nested menus, selected by inputting a flick in the direction of the segment to select it. The Action Menu is primarily used for activating features built into avatars, such as emotes within the Expressions category. It also features categories for sending Emoji, toggling basic tools like the Personal Mirror, and an Options category for various settings.

The Action Menu may colloquially be referred to as the "Radial" or "Circle" menu by users. By default, it is opened on PC using the R key; in VR, by pressing and holding B / Y (top thumb buttons); on gamepads by pressing the Right Thumbstick; and on mobile by pressing and holding the Menu button.

Settings

See also Settings for more detailed information.

Settings are preferences used to customize the VRChat experience. Menus for settings can be found in the Quick Menu, Main Menu, and Action Menu. They cover preferences for UI Elements, User Interface, Avatars, Your Avatar, Avatar Culling, Chatboxes, Display and Visual Adjustments, Comfort & Safety, Audio & Voice, Graphics, Mirrors, Controls, Tracking & IK, Accessibility, and Debugging.

The Settings tab in the Quick Menu and Main Menu is identified by a cog icon. The Settings tab in the Action Menu is identified as "Options", which can be accessed upwards on the wheel.

Camera

See also Camera and Camera Dolly for more detailed information.

Camera

The Camera is used to take pictures within VRChat. It can be accessed through the Quick Menu or the Tools tab of the Action Menu. The Camera is also used to capture icon and gallery photos, as well as create stickers and prints. Users subscribed to VRC+ also have access to a camera dolly for creating customized camera motions. On Desktop and PCVR, an Open Photos Folder button is available in the Camera tab to open the local directory where screenshots are stored.

Debug Menus

Debug Menu
Steam launch settings

See also Debug Menus and Launch Options for more detailed information.

Debug Menus are tools intended to help debug worlds, avatars, and OSC functionality in-game. To access these menus, VRChat must be launched using the launch parameter --enable-debug-gui. There are multiple debug views available to assist creators in identifying errors, testing optimizations, and evaluating performance impact.
