Earmuff Mode, or "Earmuffs" is a feature that allows a user to reduce the volume of other users outside a customizable radius around the user. Earmuff Mode was launched on August 30, 2022. Earmuffs can be accessed by the Quick Menu through the Audio tab, in Main Menu's settings tab, under Audio & Voice. The shortcut for quickly toggling on and off Earmuff Mode is double-clicking the Audio tab on the Quick Menu.

While Earmuff Mode is enabled, other users can see if another user has it enabled by looking at the top right of their nameplate as seen below:

Settings

Name Values Tooltip
Earmuff Mode On/Off Reduce the volume of others outside of a distance.
Distance 0.0-10.0m Reduce the volume of users outside of this range.
Falloff Distance 0.0-10.0m The distance at which user volumes are fully reduced.
Outside Volume 0-100% The lowest volume user voice will be reduced to.
Always Show Visual Aide On/Off [On] Showing Earmuff radius at all times. Toggle to only show when using sliders. / [Off] Only showing the Earmuff effect radius when using the sliders, click to show at all times
Include Avatar Audio On/Off [On] Including Avatar Audio, click to disable / [Off] Include Avatar Audio disabled, click to enable
Forward Cone 0-100% The slider adjusts the shape of your earmuffs to favor users in front of you
Falloff Forward Shift 0-100% Adjust the amount of forward offset that the directionality property applies to your earmuffs falloff zone
Shape Follows Rotation of Camera, Avatar Sets the type for following camera / The earmuffs shape follows your [camera's/avatar's] rotation
Lock Shape Rotation On/Off [Unlock/Lock] the earmuff shape's rotation

Distance

This changes the range in meters at which the volume of other players will begin to be reduced.

Falloff Distance

The falloff in meters of which user volumes will be reduced outside the initial range.

Outside Volume

The lowest range a user's volume will be reduced to.

Always Show Visual Aide

Will toggle the visualization of Earmuff range to always be visible.

Include Avatar Audio

Whether or not Avatar Audio is affected by Earmuff Mode.

Forward Cone

Adjusts the range to a cone to favor users in front of the user.

Falloff Forward Shift

Adjust the amount of forward offset that the directionality property applies to your earmuffs falloff zone.

Shape Follows Rotation of...

Whether the shape of the Earmuff cone follows the user's camera (current view) or the root of their avatar.

Lock Shape Rotation

Locks the shape rotation in its current position.
