Community:Potentially Upcoming Features
Potentially upcoming features are unreleased or unannounced features that may be added to VRChat in the future. They are identified through discovery in tools such as the VRChat API or platforms like Crowdin, through public statements by VRChat staff, or by appearing in A/B testing. Anything on this page should be taken with a grain of salt; appearing here does not confirm that a feature will be added.
Entries will typically be removed from this page when they are either confirmed (through being given an applicable testing branch on Open Beta, or being fully released) or removed after being denied through official VRChat sources.
Discovered
These entries were found through datamining or discovery in sources such as the VRChat API, localization tools like Crowdin, or store listings. Their presence does not confirm that they will be released.
Badges
These are badges that have been discovered.

Steam Frame
A native Android build of VRChat is available on Steam's public branch. Steam lists an Android depot and an OpenXR APK for the build as of July 24, 2026.[4] The build is tracked as (build ).[4]
Language of an Instance
Estimations on the spoken languages of an instance is available via API since end of March.
World SDK: Props and Avatar SDK: Avatar Part
Work has been discovered in World SDK 3.10.4, including Props being able to trigger events.[5]
"Avatar Part" has been discovered in Avatar SDK 3.10.4. Avatar Part has a separate Control Panel, like the Control Panels used to upload worlds and avatars.[5]
Instance vibes
"VIBES" is a translation string discovered in the VRChat's localization with the description of "Title for a new instance details modal to show the vibes tags for that instance under it"[6]. It's not used in the client or officially mentioned yet. It suggests new system of tagging options for specific instances.
Officially mentioned
These are features that have been talked about or shared publicly by VRChat staff. They may be in development, but they do not yet have an Open Beta testing branch or a confirmed live release.
New character controller for worlds
A long-running request proposes a replacement world character controller with better moving platform support, smoother stairs and slopes, improved unstuck behavior, collider push interaction, and broader Udon control.[7]
The thread is currently marked interested. A staff update on the post says work is currently halted while other projects are prioritized, with a note that updates will be shared if the item re-enters the roadmap.[7]
In April 2026, VRChat employee Sai confirmed on X that the new character controller remains "on the back burner" with no ETA and is not currently being worked on.[8]
Avatar preview improvements
A request proposes raising the camera used in avatar previews, instead of the current bottom-up view focused on the lower half of the body.[9]
The thread is currently marked interested. A staff update on May 23, 2025 said improving avatar previews in general was part of planning for the second half of 2025, with no promises.[9]
Age assurance rollout
The next Age Assurance phase beyond VRC+ is planned for the United Kingdom and has not been announced as started. Age Assurance through VRC+ remains the current live method.
In December 2025, VRChat stated it is working to reduce the cost of age verification through negotiation, partnership, and optimization, without announcing a price point. The long-term goal is to make verification free for everyone if finances permit.[10] The same announcement expected Age Verification to function alongside reintroduced Content Gating in the first half of 2026.
In a June 2026 update, VRChat adopted the term "age assurance" as an umbrella covering both age verification and age estimation, and said it would lean more on estimation approaches going forward.[11] VRChat stated that "once we start doing this, you'll get a link to go get age-assured." The UK rollout is planned in waves over several months and would be offered free of charge during an initial period. VRC+ subscribers would keep immediate access. VRChat gave no date for a wider rollout beyond the United Kingdom, citing cost and coverage challenges.[11]
Content gating reintroduction
User-toggleable Content Gating filters are already live. Age-based forced gating has not begun.
VRChat announced it will reintroduce age-based forced gating so that some tagged content requires Age Verification to view.[10] At the time, the change was expected in the first half of 2026.
The stated goal is a baseline expectation of content safety for public instances. Public instances and non-verified spaces must be suitable for a general audience. The system is meant to set a standard for what content is permissible where, and to reduce exposure to adult or suggestive content in broadly accessible spaces.[10]
The upcoming change is age-based forced gating of "Sexually Suggestive" content in the United Kingdom. It is planned to follow the United Kingdom age assurance rollout by a few months and has not begun. Users who are not age assured, or whose age is determined to be under 18, would have the "Sexually Suggestive" filter turned on with no option to disable it. Affected content would be hidden behind a placeholder. This is the only filter category changing at that time. VRChat said it could extend gating more broadly later, and advised creators to tag affected content ahead of a grace period before enforcement.[11]
Group moderation tools
VRChat stated it is exploring ways to give group owners and moderators stronger tools to enforce community norms and take consistent action against bad actors.[10] No specific tools or timeline were announced.
Age assured groups
In a June 2026 update, VRChat stated it intends to build Groups that require members to be age assured as 18 or older to join. It described this as a feature planned for after the underlying age assurance systems are established, and framed it as a preview that is subject to change.[11]
Public instance behavior system
VRChat stated it is experimenting with a system aimed at reducing toxicity and bad behavior in public instances, which it described as one of the longest-running complaints about the platform. It framed this as part of a broader Trust & Safety effort that also includes growing investment, reducing the time between a report being filed and action being taken, and building systems intended to reduce harm rather than only react to it. VRChat distinguished this conduct-focused work from content tools such as Content Gating, which can hide an avatar or world but cannot address how people behave. VRChat said it planned a dedicated post in July 2026 covering how the system works, how it was designed, and how the experiment would run, including how users could take part.[11]
On July 30, 2026, Tupper said the system had been delayed after effort shifted to related priorities on the Trust & Safety team's internal roadmap, with no current ETA. He said the community would still be informed well in advance of testing.[12]
OSC: Output for Haptics
A milestone created in 2022 on the VRChat Community OSC GitHub repository proposes streaming OSC data representing touches or collisions with avatars to interface with haptic devices.[13]
OSC: Udon
A milestone created in 2022 on the VRChat Community OSC GitHub repository plans to enable Udon to read and write OSC data for use in VRChat worlds.[13]
Render pipeline migration (URP)
Community discussion periodically suggests migrating VRChat from Unity's Built-in Render Pipeline (BiRP) to URP or HDRP. No official release announcement or Open Beta plan has been published for a migration of this scope.
In a Unity forum thread on render pipeline strategy, a Unity staff member said Unity hoped to share more details during the year on "how we are migrating one of the largest UGC platforms to URP".[14] The platform was not named, but was a reply to questions about VRChat.
Image paste into inventory media
A July 16, 2026 Developer Update described a forthcoming way to paste JPG, PNG, or clipboard images into VRChat as Prints, user icons, Stickers, and Emojis. An image can be pasted as raw data, pasted as a file, or dragged and dropped. Stickers, user icons, and emojis are padded to a square with transparency by default; Prints keep their original shape. Portrait Prints are rotated automatically, with a separate control for further rotation. When the clipboard already holds image data, a Paste icon appears on the Quick Menu launch pad and does the same thing as Ctrl+V.[15]
Group Nameplate Banner
Group management on the website is planned to gain a Group Nameplate Banner, a separate image from the existing group banner and used only on the group's nameplate. Groups that do not upload one keep using the existing banner. The upload flow includes a template.
Two crop modes were described. Bottom-left Anchored pins the image's bottom-left corner so that a longer nameplate reveals more of the image without changing its scale. Centered scales the image to cover the banner, keeping a marked center square always visible while the rest can crop as the nameplate grows or shrinks.[16]
Custom nameplate banners without a group
VRChat also planned custom nameplate banners that can be uploaded individually, including by users who are not in a group. That change is scheduled to follow shortly after the 2026.3.1 launch rather than ship on day one.[16]
Udon update
An upcoming Udon update is planned to add native APIs so world objects can face the local player or follow a humanoid avatar bone without per-frame update loops, which VRChat described as expensive. Both APIs are subject to change until release.[17]
Native billboarding registers a transform with VRCBillboard.Register and removes it with VRCBillboard.Unregister. The default register call tracks yaw only; an overload with allowTilt also tracks pitch.
Attaching a transform to a bone currently requires moving and rotating the object every frame. Native AttachTransformToBone and DetachTransformFromBone methods are planned so that tracking is handled after a one-time attach.
The August 2026 Creators Roadmap lists this work as in progress.[18]
Advanced contact proximity parameters
When a contact receiver is hit by a sender with at least one matching tag, it can already generate a proximity parameter that indicates how close the sender is. An upcoming SDK update is planned to add further parameters.
The extra parameters include the sender type, the local midpoint of the sender relative to the receiver, velocity and speed, the rate at which proximity is changing, and up to 16 boolean parameters for tags the sender shares with the receiver. If several senders contact the same receiver, the values represent the sender with the highest proximity. VRChat said the additions follow community feedback and are intended to replace workarounds used to derive the same information.[17]
Material Contacts
Material Contacts writes contact transforms into shader properties. When it is enabled on a receiver, the receiver can target up to four MeshRenderer components. Those renderers receive the world-space transform matrix of the receiver's four nearest contacting senders, and of the receiver itself.[19]
Contacts currently update at most 60 times per second. That cap is being removed, so contacts can update every frame above 60 FPS.[19]
Variable-width avatar parameters
Synced avatar parameters use three types. Integers are 8-bit values from 0 to 255. Floats are 8-bit fixed-point values from −1.0 to 1.0. Booleans are 1-bit true or false.[19]
Integer and float parameters will use a configurable number of bits. A lower bit width frees unused space in the 256-bit synced-parameter budget. A higher bit width allows integers above 255, or more float precision, and uses more of that budget. A 2-bit integer can replace several mutually exclusive boolean toggles. One example uses a 2-bit Outfit parameter (0 to 3) and a 4-bit EyeConstriction float. That setup uses 7 bits instead of 17. The inspector is subject to change.[19]
Soba
Soba remains in development toward a Closed Beta. VRChat described the language itself as "in good shape." The largest implemented change relative to Udon is non-behavior classes: plain classes that do not inherit from a behavior, whereas in Udon every piece of code must live on an UdonBehaviour. Also implemented are structs, interfaces, custom interfaces, static variables, nested types, and exception logs with a full stack trace of user code.
Remaining work includes confirming that implemented behavior works in a real client, plus test coverage, editor tooling, validation, error messages, and documentation. VRChat did not give a Closed Beta date, saying it would rather under-promise after a March 2026 update that described the team as "hard at work" and then stretched five more months. Soba is designed to sit alongside Udon, not replace it.[17]
Portal exclusion zones
World creators currently choose to disable Portals completely, or to allow them anywhere except the player spawn area. Work in progress adds exclusion zones, which are areas where players cannot place portals.[20] The change is intended for games and other spaces where players should not walk into a dropped portal. More details are planned for an upcoming Developer Update.[18]
Avatar optimizer
An official avatar optimizer was removed from the August 2026 Creators Roadmap for now. It is expected to return.[21] Unity 6 support is prioritized first because it affects the optimizer's features and functionality. The optimizer is also intended to work with popular third-party avatar optimizers. Optimization is intended to be easier without many new ways to break an avatar on upload.[18]
In testing
These features are in limited testing, such as closed beta, Open Beta, A/B testing, or an invite-only test.
Challenges
A feature which lets you complete challenges[22][23]. First discovery on December 13, 2024. Last new discovery on December 16, 2024. This feature is not yet accessible to all users, and seems to only be available for some VRChat accounts.
Challenges:
- Make X Friends[24]
- Visit X Friends[25]
- Visit X Worlds[2]
- Try VRChat on Another Platform[26]
- Log in X Days in a Row[27]
Discovery and social system improvements

VRChat stated it is exploring improvements to discovery and social systems so users can find intended communities while naturally separating audiences that should not interact.[10] No specific features or timeline were announced.
In a developer stream Q&A on May 29, 2026, the team described a personalized "For You" world list as an experiment that was running at the time, noting that users may see it, see variations of it, or not see it at all, and that no further details would be shared while the experiment was in progress.[28]
As of July 1, 2026, the "For You" world list was no longer observed in the client.
An A/B test labeled Discover (Alpha) has been observed on the Live tab of the Main Menu. First observed July 24, 2026.
Unity 6
Engine upgrade to Unity 6 (6000.0.67f1) is available on PC on the unity-6 branch.[29] The branch opened at 6000.0.60f1.[30] Bugs can be reported in the Open Beta canny board.
Unity 6 SDK and VCC support is in QA as of August 27, 2026. The later Unity 6 SDK and VCC open beta installs Unity 6 through VCC and migrates projects.[19]
Action Drivers
Action Drivers is an upcoming avatar SDK component in closed beta testing. It is subject to change.[19]
Creators bind avatar parameters to actions such as toggling GameObjects or changing blend shapes. Action Drivers does not replace custom animators.[19] Material swaps are being handled as part of Action Drivers.[31]
World analytics
World analytics is in progress at a very early stage.[32] A small test gives additional, rudimentary analytics to a few dozen invited world creators. That group is as many as can be supported without a full system. The test is intended to learn which analytics matter and how creators use them. Work next year is planned to use those findings to build a system that supports many more creators. Building that system is expected to take quite a bit of time.[18]
